Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
yeah, but speedo and ODO are not the same. my speedo was off on stockers but the ODO was right, then it was off in the other direction w/ 33's and the ODO is off. if the ODO reads 300 mles, i've actually traveled about 320-325...i cant remember exactly what the gps says

I'm on my 3rd Taco, and have never gotten great MPG on the v-6.
My neighbor has a Dodge full size, and he gets as good on the highway as I do in my Taco.

Not too impressed with the gas mileage in my 98 Taco but it is a 4x4 after all, just seems it should be better than 18 to an imperial gallon. I do remember the mileage from all my other vehicles just for the record
1961 Ford Frontenac 170 cu in manual choke auto tranny 33mpg
1966 Chevy Van 230 cu in manual choke manual tranny 26mpg
1968 Buick Electra 430 auto choke and tranny 16mpg
1966 Plymouth Valiant 225 cu in auto choke and tranny 26mpg
1964 GMC Van 250 cu in auto choke manual tranny 20mpg
1971 chev 3/4 ton pickup 350 or 454 didn't matter 15mpg auto choke manual tranny
1977 Olds Cutlass 350 cu in auto choke and tranny 20 mpg
1989 GMC Jimmy 350 cu in fuel injected auto tranny 15 mpg
Those mileages are all mixed driving but mostly city, I think all the auto companies have a way to go to get reasonable mileage again

This is the first vehicle I've owned that's been THAT affected by the winter gas & temperatures.

My 96 tacoma 3.4L got 19-20mpg all year (manual).

This 07... (auto) gets about 18-19mpg in the summer months/summer gas. During the winter...I've been getting 15-16mpg. I've noticed that the colder temperaturs affects it even on the same tank of gas.

I ran 89 octane for a couple tank fulls just to see what would happen. The second full tank....at half tank mark, I was getting 18mpg approx (with about 40-50 degree weather). After that, we hit a cold spell with temps around 20 degrees. My average mpg went down to about 14.5mpg and I really didn't do anything differently. This type of things happens every winter....weird.

My husbands Acura MDX isnt' affected by the different gas or temps at all.

My MPG is taking a pretty good dive. It seems to be worse than in the past though. The drop started back at the end of summer.

I adjusted tire inflation, put in a new air filter, changed the motor oil to synthetic, and put in new spark plugs. No difference so far. I'm doing an octane experiment now, we'll see if that has any effect.

Here's my info laid out to see.

I just traveled from Wright Patterson Air Force Base to east of Morgantown, WV (281 miles). Had about 900 lbs in the truck (driver, passenger, & cargo). Put 12.2 gallons in the tank. That works out to 23 MPG. I could not be happier.

My teammate at work just bought the Camero, he really likes it. The SSID engine is impressive. I have to say that it does look really 'bad-ass' when it comes up on you in the rear view mirror. (BTW, his other car is a Prius.)

I agree with you Bob, Toyota needs to work engine efficiency.

The best I've gotten so far is 15 and that was a mix of highway and city. I've gotten 11 twice so far. My last fill-up was this morning and the gas light came on. I had 240 miles on the trip for 14mpg. Oh well, I guess that's the price we pay for having trucks.

Winter gas kills the mpgs big time. But I came from an 09 F-250 so it seems like I get great mpgs. It has been around 17 or so. Not to bad I guess as long as the price of gas doesnt keep creapn up like it has been.

For those of us that drive the manual edition, there is always the radical driving method.
Cut the vehicle off at stop lights you're going to sit at for a while
Shift to neutral going down hills
    Shift to neutral when braking
Shift quickly to maintain RPM as low as reasonably achievable

Just remember in employing these techniques, some can deem it as not maintaining control of the vehicle. So use them wisely. Overall they provide a couple of miles per gallon.

I just added a resonator in front of my muffler on my TRD exhaust and I feel like my MPG might be better, is this possible?
It was just a wee bit loud for me and the 18" resonator made it perfect!
