i just did a fill up today, and averaged 20.41mpg, thats running 93 octane, non name brand gas, and having city driving, interstate driving, and some moderate throttle usage, no heater/defroster most of the time, and still running winter blend i do believe, summer time mpg is between 21-23mpg running 93 octane, my truck has only seen about 4-5 tanks of 87 octane, only run the good stuff!

Damn that's really hard to believe! I'm going to try it and we will see! I've seen other people deny that higher grade works for higher mpg though!s

ive ran 87 for the first few tanks, and then 93 for the rest, saturn vue with the 2.4 pos motor, 26 with 87, 28 with 93, 2011 corolla s, 31-32 with 87, 35 with 93, 38 on the interstate!!! then went to the taco, 19-20 with 87, 23 with 93 driving normal, 23.5 interstate, 21-22 moderate driving, lead foot, driving like a race car, 17-19... you have to give it 3-4 tanks to see the full effect, take a bit for the ecm to change over to the different mapping, and with 93 you gain something like 3 or 6 hp, and like 12ft/lbs of torque, that alone makes it worth it to me!!!

    Marginal help on the V6.
The 4.0 was designed for 91, but the ECU will back off the timing for 87.
91 will give you slightly better mileage, but not enough to make up the extra $3.60/tank it's going to cost you.

The 2.7's timing is maxed out at 87 and it will not advance further with 91, so there is no improvement to be had on the 4-banger.

2013 Tacoma 4.0 V6. It was full from the dealer when I picked it up, I assume with 85. I ran through about a 1/2 tank filled it with 87 then ran through about 3/4 filled it and then calculated MPG. 206 miles 15.1 gallons used. Came out with 13.6! Not cool. I traded my 2000 F250 7.3L 6speed for a Yota thinking better mileage and I got better mileage in the F250 and i could tow a house with that. :(

There is a definite benefit if the 91 is E0 and the 87 is E10+.

In Canada that is the case, and some US stations do it.

been tracking my fuel ups and milage since Nov of 2012. It is possible to achieve 20+ MPG on the 4.0L. But you gonna have to give up a few things, mainly speeding. I'm gonna say I drive 90% highways and about 20% road(just an estimate). Highway I stay with in 55-60 MPH, never really going over 60 at all, and it helps when I just set my cruise control. Roads I stay within the speed limit 25,35 etc. been using 87 Regular since I got the truck. best milage I got so far is 23.7 MPG, and the best miles I got from a full tank is 374 miles. I fill up my tank every time my light goes on. filled up yesterday and got 22.7MPG out of my last fill up.

Follow the link in my signature to set up a Fuelly account.
No app needed, still have it if your phone is stolen or damaged.

When I gas up, I just send a text message to Fuelly with my odometer reading, price per gallon, and number of gallons and it handles the rest.

If I do a partial fill, then I save the receipt and send the text when I fill it and add the partial to that one.

I enter mine into cleanmpg.com. Here is every tank graphed. Illustrates the difference between summer and winter pretty well.

Hey does anyone know why my FUELLY info is being cut off at the bottom. It shows up when I preview post but once I submit it shows up cut-off?

Thank you. I will have to work on that then. It cuts off my build thread too. Not cool. :(
