It's starting to hit me, wondering if now is the best time to sell it off and consider something else, question is---what the heck would I even consider... needs to be able to fit 2 car seats confortably (more comfortable than the tacoma lol)

I have considered it... The problem is that just about everything is expensive. Sure you can trade the Taco in for an extra 10-15%, but you'll be paying 10% premium on whatever you trade it in for. Kind of winds up being a wash, imo.

My strategy would probably be to sell now and get a cheap beater until the chip shortage ends and prices normalize. That could be risky though, because you never know how long it'll take, plus current prices might just become the new normal.

I probably won't bother though because I'm too lazy to return my truck to stock and sell off my upgrades. Plus I like my truck.

No, despite current bizarro world conditions, trucks are not an investment.

I agree, i still like my truck, no issues, owned since new and has been meticulously babied so i know its going to run another 15 years. But for a 2017 truck to get the SAME price as when i bought it is almost unheard of, so thats why im entertaining it.

    Nope.
Finally got rid of Entune last week, my only bitch.
Hoping this truck works out to be a long term keeper.

Only thing what would make sense financially would be to sell the truck and get into a reliable used car. Pocket the difference for a few years and when gas is 4.50 a gal again we'll start to see trucks flooding the market.

Yeah I can sell my truck for more than I bought it for 4 years ago and 40k miles ago. But when 4runners are marked up to $60k and everyone asking $45k for used Tacoma's, there isn't anything out there I'd want to buy to replace it.

The only way to come out on top if you sell your taco now, is to buy a beater car for cheap (because those are the only cheap cars out there right now), drive that until the supply and demand even out... which who knows how long that will be... hope it doesn’t shit the bed before the bubble bursts, and then buy a new vehicle in a year (maybe?) and bank on the prices go back down to pre-covid norms. All that to make a couple grand? No thanks.

Life's too short to ponder selling something I thoroughly enjoy just so I can post a story about it while denying that in the end one to two different car dealers and the county/state got the best of me with doc fees, taxes etc.

Thanks guys! Needed some realistic advice, truthfully I would strongly consider it if my tacoma had some issues or I wasn't happy with it

If I were to sell I'd look at the Ford Maverick as a potential next vehicle. But it's not even out yet. But a hybrid with towing ability for under 20k is pretty appealing even if the bed is small.

I would do it if I could find the right color replacement somewhat locally. Based on the offer I got, how much I owe and the price of a new truck, it would put me in roughly the same financial position but with 0 miles vs 66,000.

Took the plunge and sold the PRO this weekend. Couldn't turn down the offer. When a dealer is paying you 8K over original sticker for a truck that is now 3yrs old & over 20K on the odometer, it was a no-brainer to me.
I then went and purchased a '19 Corolla that just came back in off lease. Will get back in a new PRO around winter.

Update: Found a ‘20 PRO with only 12k on odometer for $47k. Got a great deal IMO

You can't win man. Sure, they will give you a lot but buying something else is going to cost more than usual. It's a push.
