Are the dealers selling all the trade ins? I wouldn’t want a used truck for same price as new.

I agree, selling now is a wash if you are going to get something new. If you are in debt, this is the time to sell your truck and downsize.

I don't care what the resale value is. I bought the truck to ride 200k+ miles. I'm not giving it up unless someone offers me 20k+ than what I paid for it. An extra 4-5k in my pocket does nothing in the long run.

Tacomas have always yielded high used prices... when I bought mine in 2018, there were a few used ones on the lot, they were asking damn near the same cost as new, and when you factor in higher interest rates for used it made 0 sense to buy used because the difference was minimal between used and new.

Fast forward to today and what you're seeing is just more of the same, albeit exaggerated because of new vehicle supply, but it will always be so that used prices will be high, even after all this COVID business

Totally agree. Market is great for selling right now but only if you have a vehicle to fall back on, or don't need one. My wife and I go back and forth on it since we basically both work from home now, but really it's hard to tell until everyone opens back up for sure.

If I owed money on the truck I'd certainly think about taking advantage of the current craziness.

If you buy smart, utilize rebates and shop for the best financing, and work good numbers it's a good time to consider trading In/Up. Especially if it's something you've been considering.

My local dealership still calls every now and then to check if my wife want to trade up on our multiple toyos. Not unless they give me cash back and 0% and way-over KBB. No reason to not hold onto 'em!

Gen II guy hear but I have considered. I have a 2014 4x4 Sport with 56K.... I am shocked to see what these pickups are going for. I have three other cars and a motorcycle so I could sell and just sit on the money... Problem is I really like the pickup and cannot predict what the future holds for prices.

I have more cars than I know what to do with, but I am still keeping my Taco as I like having a truck. Also, it is my Zombie Apocalypse / Societal breakdown bug out vehicle and you just never know these days!

Its too much hassle and not worth the distraction with a busy schedule (of course what the hell am I doing on TW, then). Yes, I could probably pocket a couple grand from the transaction, but buying a vehicle is just not a fun experience for me. What would I get? Certainly not a new vehicle in this climate. A used...what?

What did you replace it with? I am starting to get fed up with the Entune system. Did you have the JBL system?

Absolutely not. Anything extra I get on trade/sale is going to be more than offset on the purchase end.

It's the same with housing. If you sell your house because of the market, I hope you have a field with a trailer on it to live in until what you'd have to purchase comes back down.

    There's no free lunches here.

Thought about it but there's nothing else in the same price range that I really want. Maybe it's because I have other vehicles and just wanted a truck that checked off all the right things and the Tacoma was it. Can't really go wrong with keeping it but I can see why people would sell it. Especially if it wasn't your first choice when purchasing a vehicle.
