Yeah. The seat criticism is just way off. It’s better than 3G.

most incredible thing, and a real testament to Toyota truck building…….after 2 giant oak trees fell on it, and a collapsed roof, my 3rd gen still, started, ran, and drove without any hesitation or leaks…….

Yeah the seat being too low is weird, only 5’8” and felt higher than my 3rd Gen during test drives. Maybe it was in the lowest setting???

Regarding seat height, was the driver seat power?

Absolutely. Traded in my ‘22 TRD Sport for a ‘24, and gave up a few features comparatively that came standard with the ‘22 (rear window, power seats, etc.) but the increase in safety features and technology and the driving experience are 100% worth it. The only upgrade on mine is the 14 inch screen, and it’s the only thing I wasn’t willing to budge on. Super happy, would do it again every time.

Is reverse geared quite high in the manual? How bad is it? Like if you had to reverse up a hill would it be an issue?

I use 4low to reverse up steep hills or small hills with a trailer. Only way not to burn the clutch. My ‘12 Xterra was the same. There’s no practical reason to make reverse faster than 1st, not sure why they do it.

I wanted to ask you 4G owners about the interior. A lot of you tubers have said the interior feels more plasticy and cheaper than the 3G. My 4G has a LOT less plastic, softer materials, nicer softex, etc. The 3G interior felt almost 100% plastic. The 3G 4H/4L shifter was probably the worst in terms of feel. However the 3G felt “tighter” overall .. but could be my imagination. What do you all think?

Like most everything about it but the pump up seat seems overwhelmed by a 280 pound man, and after three previous Tacomas that giant turning circle is hard getting used to

More than I need but still not enough.
I haven't driven a 3rd Gen in years, my Dad owns one that I have driven a handful of times. Coming from a Jeep Renegade which is much smaller than my 4g, I was actually impressed with the turning radius and it seems better than my Renegade.

No shifter, it’s a knob :-( I wish it was a shifter. I’ve owned 4 shifter and 3 knobs, much prefer the shifter.

The knob itself isn’t bad, my only complaint is that I can’t go from 2Hi to 4Lo directly, need to go to 4Hi first, wait until the 4Hi light stops flashing and is lit, sometimes need to put it in gear and pop the clutch to engage, then push clutch again to go to 4Lo. GMC and Nissan aren’t fussy like that.

Yeah. I remember it well. It’s why I came oh so close to buying the Grenadier. Real transfer case shifter.

Pretty much every automaker has “ plastic” interior. I’ve seen those reviews and don’t disagree but at least the Tacoma doesn’t rattle and creek. Overall I really like the gen 4 interior the biggest miss was the lack of soft touch on the dash and door panels. My 2022 Corolla had a soft touch dash! I wouldn’t say it’s more plasticky than the gen 3, or any of the other competitors.

My 3G was a super hard plastic dash. My 4G feels like a softer touch (more like a hard rubber).

I think that most complaints are either fake, coming from a non owner, or from people who would have never been satisfied anyway.

And yes it is a first year of a new generation and blah blah blah growing pains and problems- None of this matters because it is under warranty.

The dozen or so bad trannies went out in the first 1000 miles and those people will get new ones.

Buy a manual if you're that worried about it.

I generally agree. The only thing that worries me is the multiple reports of trannies getting hot but not necessarily failing. With the load we put on these trucks off road or towing, or with big tires, that worries me. My hope is the transmission failures and the overheating are the same core issue and that it’s been fixed.
