I have a feeling the suspension will break in after a while. It is a very smooth drive on pavement. I dont have any regrets about the purchase, I hope that it continues to grow on me.

I’ll report back how it feels on super rocky uneven terrain with sway disconnected

Before I spent $70K on a new Taco, I would go full size every day all day.

If I had the space for it, I would have considered a new F-250 Tremor turbo diesel. I think that would be super cool.

Not here to crap on 4th Gen, I am sure they are awesome, but this is correct. The “issues” with 3G were mainly complaints about drivability, styling choices, not outright failures.

Tremor and King Ranch are cool trims, HD is a more truck than I need, those diesel are between 70-90k.

I think it is, but if that's what someone wants and sometimes that's the vehicle best suited to their needs.

The TH is a splurge and for some folks, like me, it has what I want from the factory, fits in my garage, has all the ridiculous features, and is fun. Not everyone needs to think it’s a good value. It gets so much hate but the target market likes it and is a very narrow set of buyers.

Forget the ZR2 Colorado and Ranger Raptor, Trailhunter is probably priced similar to Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, and the Bronco Raptor. Both of which are ridiculous vehicles, Trailhunter is more practical, fixed roof, cargo bed and it's still a Tacoma after all. It is hard to compare these trims to their own milder trims as they are different vehicles.

I don't hate the Trailhunter, in fact I find it pretty cool and I'm glad it exists. For every tuned model, there exists a buyer.

Along with the TRD Pro, it also shows that even in these strained times, Toyota is still willing to try and push the envelope and innovate.

I was really on the fence about getting this truck because it's a new generation, but after 7000 miles, I feel it's been good. (knock on wood) I've been following the news about the transmissions. Seems as though those problems have been happening mostly before 1000 miles. Hoping I've dodged that bullet.

    Back to the OP's question...

I am two weeks into ownership of a 4x4 SR5, cold weather package and gussied up with the Predator XP package (not my first choice there, it was the only one within 40 miles with a cold weather package and integrated brake controller. I am very satisfied with my purchase overall, though I admit to still suffering from sticker shock, even with $6K off sticker price. No matter though, I too think the 4th gen is miles ahead of my prior 2013 Taco 2WD TRD Sport in every category. My aging eyes may regret not springing for the 14 inch screen, but the 8" is bigger than the screen in my 2015 Ford XLT 2.7L Ecoboost, so I'm fine with that. My only gripe is that damn engine noise and I too wish they had more soft touch where you and your passenger typically rest arms on long drives, which we do in the summers. Wife and I are teachers and go on 4-6 wk camping trips with our TrailManor towing behind and having that little bit of comfort in a 60 yr old body aint bad on those 12 hour driving days. For now, overall looks, fit and finish, drivability, gas mileage and the tech built into the truck make me a pretty happy camper. I'm new to the 4x4 world, so can't speak to that until I get it out on a trail somewhere. I'll report back on towing once the camping season starts back up in the spring, though several YouTubes give it kudos for that also.

Just hit 21k km on my 24 offroad manual. This is my 6th Tacoma and by far the best driving one yet. I also traded a Pro in for this base offroad

What I find fascinating is how many of the features people pine for are in the upper trims. Budgets control many, but you specifically bought down to price rather than bought at your desired features.

Soft touch padded doors - check
Soft touch padded center console - check
    Led turn signals - check
    Integrated trailer brake - check
    Running boards - check
Paint protection from tire kick up - check
    Locking tailgate - check
Headed steering wheel - check (yes, someone was exploring this aftermarket... Just do your homework first. Cheap many times over is simply more expensive in the end)

Otherwise you are buying a vehicle with free choice and you are making the choice that your desire for that feature is not worth the cost, so don't complain about not having it later on.

    You get what you buy

But the Halo trims are so overpriced! Didn’t you read the internet?

Or I could stop having false anchoring expectations of what something should cost while at the same time declare I'm underpaid!

Let's add context that many want to ignore:
(Intentionally picking a different Toyota model)

2004 Highlander limited V6 AWD: ~$32000 at launch. In today's dollars that's ~$54000. 2024 same trim and AWD = $51000... And the feature/function comparison isn't even on the same playing field.

A 2004 Tacoma Limited V6 4WD would have cost you $26790, or just shy of $45000 in today's dollars. For that you'd have gotten 190hp & 16mpg. 2024 Tacoma starts at $52100. So the cost of the vehicle and the improvements they've made over two decades is valued at ~$7000. Park a 2004 and 2024 next to each other... I'd say there a hell of a lot more than 7k worth of functions and features added...

I have seen more Cyber Trucks and 24 Raptors on the road than Halo trim 4Gs. I have yet to see any Halo 4Gs on the road.

You can be under paid and still get a better deal on a Frontier than a Tacoma. If anyone feels under paid, there's the door, find another job that pays more.
