PLANO, Texas — Frito-Lay hopes to quiet complaints about its noisy SunChips bags by switching out the biodegradable bags for the old packaging on most flavors.
The snack maker says it will switch back to original packaging made of a type of plastic for five of the six varieties of the chips. It will keep the biodegradable and recyclable bags for its sixth variety, its original plain flavor. That's its second best-selling, after Harvest Cheddar.

Spokeswoman Aurora Gonzalez says the company received complaints about the noise from the bags since they were launched in April 2009.
The bags are louder than traditional bags because the material used for them is made from plants and has a different molecular structure.
Frito-Lay is a unit of PepsiCo Inc., based in Purchase, N.Y.

    SunChips in a
    "100 Percent Compostable Chip Package"
    Submitted by Ryan Myers
SunChips in a brand new bag? Well there's a sufficient excuse to get an extra bag of chips. And what's this? The bag is biodegradable? Wow, I bet these are the chips Captain Planet eats.
No, not unless Captain Planet likes to eat his chips in a small closet with two-dozen shrieking infants. I'm not sure how or why, but the new SunChips bag is made of baby screams. You can't touch the damn thing without suffering a cacophonous crinkling. Forget reaching your hand inside. The difference between the sound of a normal bag of chips and the sonic horror of a bag of SunChips is the difference between being on an airplane with a screaming infant and being on airplane where you are the only passenger who is not a screaming infant.
We seem to accept infants screaming in public as unavoidable. But a few thousand years ago, when humans worried about attracting predators and feared being eaten by giant wolves and saber-tooth tigers, I bet there was a lot more hand over tiny mouth action. We should get back to that. We should also get back to me being able to eat SunChips without wearing ear protection.

I dont WANT my food in a bio degradable bull shit bag. I want it to be able to LAST in my cubbors until I decide when to eat it! If I open a cupboard and find my shit biodegraded, Im mailing a poop bomb to the manufacture.

I have an issue with sleep walking and eating sunchips. As many of you know being woken up while sleep walking can be very traumatic. These bags have been detrimental to my health and well being.

Ha. this is rediculus. If people want to eat there chips, they should live with the noise that comes along with it. Don't think I've ever bought something based on sound quaility/volume of bag noise.

I worked my way through college at AARP and was amazed at the shit that old people would take the time to write letters about. They complained about every damned thing on the planet and expected AARP to do something about it. I'm never surprised when people go out of their way to bitch and whine.

Thats when you know you're fat...that you spend so much time with your hand in a chip bag that the noise it makes is that big of an issue.
