The metal on a garage covered in metal roofing would need to be grounded?

    +metal siding, no gaps.
That's my understanding. EMP still needs to go somewhere. It is one thing to block a simple radio signal by putting a phone into a foil chip bag (Terminator reference). It is another thing to block an energy pulse strong enough to fry chips.

Maybe I am wrong, but I think of EMP as a lightning. Lightning rods work because they give electricity a direct path to the ground.

Used to be a company (now gone) out of Austin Texas called "Grease Car" and they would replace your spare tire with a grease tank so you could go pull grease out of a fast food waste tank and put it right in your car. It had a system that would blend the grease with the diesel as it entered your fuel system and kept it from solidifying. But in the tanks it always kept them separate.

    That's close - probably an 85% solution.

Your microwave is a Faraday cage that keeps microwaves in instead of out. And your microwave door has a metal screen in it that you can see through. This works because the very specific wavelength of a microwave is too large of a wave and is disrupted b the smaller holes.

But since an EMP has all sorts of different wavelengths in it, we don't know how big our holes can be. Best bet is to make it gap-less. Think of it more like a shipping container. Do you need to ground it to the earth? I would but in an EMP, especially if you are close to the source, it may not serve much function. Like trying to divert lightning through speaker wire.

Nice... I just dropped a couple of steaks into the sous vide this morning. Gonna get grilling soon. Okay, pan fry.

It's a pretty energy efficient way of cooking, though - most of the tendering is done in the SV, which draws under a hundred watts (it's only spinning water around and maintaining 135F) then the induction peaks at about 1kw or so at searing temps, for a couple of minutes.

Put away 12 quarts of home made marinara sauce and 4 pints of Cherokee purple salsa. 24 quarts of sauce over 2 weekeends. Hoping to do more sauce and salsa. Heat is really bad on the plants.
Peaches are ripe. Need to pick them and make peach jam. Tree is old, so need to make as much as we can while we can.
Pear is looking good, but we get a break. They will not be ready till August.
Heat and lack of rain did a number on figs. Should be enough for fresh eating and cooking.

Where are you? Up north? We put away a couple dozen pints of blueberry jams and froze a couple of gallons. Sold some. Older bushes had berries in May.
Now eating them fresh. Kids.... They ask for expensive store bought blueberries in winter, and won't eat our own!

Overrun with blackberries, but worms are bad this year. I tried not to spray this year, and I should have. Have to wash berries in lemon juice, refrigerate, then wash again.
Have to pick peaches next weekend. Ground underneath i covered in rabbit poo, where they come at night to eat the fallen peaches.

Too many rabbits, eh? Sounds like you know what you need to get into your survivalist sous chef rotation.

And it tastes just like chicken too. Basically any chicken recipe can be substituted for rabbit.

    Yeah, 45N or so.

We did have a backyard deer come by and browse a bit, though.

Good thread @Casper66. It took me a week to read through it. Lot of good information and things to think about. Makes you evaluate your own preparedness, and think about what would you do.

I’m more prepared than most of my current neighbors, but still have room to improve.

As far as bug in vs. bug out: depends on the situation.
