Idk about other states but if you hunt, at least here, muzzle loader season falls at the peak of the rut

I mean the man has skills (and tools, I mean the plasma cutter, welder, etc) and skills, imho, are really one of the best preps. Friends being the second best since they can do things you can't/haven't had time for/etc ...

I wouldn’t mind trying it. I have a bit of the tools needed I’d have to get a press and the proper riveting tool and learn the proper rivet set. I’ve spent many years fabbing steel with limited tooling. I doubt I’d be good at it right away and the downfall now the kits are far more expensive and harder to find

I can both agree and disagree with this. This is a place where we will all have different opinions depending on our individual circumstances.
I agree….there are many other aspects of being prepared and any focus on one aspect will shortchange others. It’s no more important than others a more balanced approach to the overall goal, I’d think, would be more advantageous.
I disagree…… it has its place for me. Living in a rural setting it’s a means for collecting meat and ,Lord forbid, defend yourself and your preps if needed.
We all have our ideas of what we think will work for us I can respect that unless your outlook is you will take what you need from others

Oh that just looks fun, frustrating, challenging, and rewarding if successful. Perhaps when I retire in a couple years

Yeah, but I'm a Boy Scout and believe in being prepared. Guns are just tools. A step above a knife, ax, or gardening tools. If they aren't needed for hunting or protection then they can gather dust. I keep a fire extinguisher in my house too.

Fair enough. I'm not saying it's not a useful tool, just not my go to. Literally everything else is more useful before considering use of force options. At least here.

I'm pretty involved with the scouts at the moment, too. And totally, Be Prepared. But, no shit. Your best prep is your social network and how do to mutual aid. You don't scout alone - it's all about your patrol. If you can't wrangle help on your eagle project, did you really fulfill the oath and law? Everything is just a prep, but, like I said... arms are way on the bottom of the list for many reasons. Not saying they're not on the list, just i have other priorities, and question those who have them at higher brackets. Like "what exactly will you do with them, again"? Stove? Lantern, Batteries? Help others and yourself (so that you can help others).

nice... and if I ever get a powder setup I'm going for flintlock or electrical ignition, tbh.

I certainly appreciate yall envolved with Scouts. My wife and I were Girl Scout leaders for 17 years with th 2 troops (2daughters) and lead about half our girls through achieving their Gold awards. It’s a true commitment but the kids are worth it many of them are still in touch with each other today in their late 20’s and early 30’s
