my guess is that most folks aren’t prepared for much of anything even the simplest of things. It doesn’t cost much for basic preparedness like most things it’s just how into it you want to get. It’s very simple to put together a tote of stuff you may need in case of power outages or something short term and relatively simple you just need to put a little effort into it and think about what you may need but a lot of people don’t even consider it then fuss when something happens

Yep. How many even keep some cash on hand, in case CC machines go down (Crowdstrike, anyone)?

It's the opposite here during hurricanes. Stores are all closed but the gas pump card readers usually still work.

Ordered an UCO lantern kit and spare candles today.
Easier to store and use than liquid paraffin survival candles.
    Hurricane season is coming.
$50 for 200 hours of portable, infinitely "storable" light

Purchased Toyota Certified, with Vijay bumpers, additional lights, and Falken Wildpeaks on Fuel rims. Prev owner apparently painted the grill.
Luuuvvv me some UCO candle lanterns. I have several, one of the 3x big bertha ones that can sorta be used to cook on while giving light, and more replacement candles than are really necessary. I even made a 3d printed mould to pour new ones - haven't tried that yet though.

I will have to investigate this I’ve never heard of these. We recently got a couple interesting solar lights but I haven’t seen these candle setups

I have not used them yet. Used a lot of regular candles and liquid ones in AK. Electricity was regularly knocked out in winter.
I like that it is safer than a kerosene lanter. Qnd less stinky.
3 candle one is next on the list.

love these, the small and triple candle models.

switching topics, I don't think they make them anymore but I have a community chlorine maker made by MSR. Just needs a little clean water and some salt and hook it up to a 12v battery. Makes enough chlorine to treat water for a village. I read they were made for use in Africa. I think other companies have something similar. I prefer non-chlorinated water but in a pinch... I can always run it through the Big Berkey as well. Which is why we first bought the Berkey. After an E Coli issue in our tap water they started to chlorinate it.

Where are you that you didn't have chlorine in your tap water? I've never heard of a municipality that didn't use chlorine (in the US, at least).

Adding a few drops of bleach per quart of water is easier. Or if it gets really bad, steal your neighbor's platinum saltwater pool chlorine generator.

I do not have chlorine in my water, but I am on my own well. Everybody who tastes it, comments on how much better it tastes then their own water.

We have county water on the property, but it is just for the orchard and the garden.

Yeah, well water makes sense; the other guy implied someone else supplies the water (reference to "they").

I have well water at my mountain house, and it does taste better, yes. Depending on the minerals you have, those can also make it taste better as well (limestone and stuff usually tastes better to me).

Ok so fun little rainy day project. I was looking at the 100 concepts light covers and thought what a great idea until I saw the price. I certainly don’t hold anything against their ingenuity but thought maybe I could figure something out. I found an old butler creek scope cap and adapted it to fit.
