    Nice!

I had a 15 gallon 3 vessel electric RIMS setup with a home made raspberry Pi controller. But it was destroyed in a house fire last year. I am in a rental now, so I am not going full bore until I get another house.....

lol 5 gallon small batches will last most a good while. We need to brew stout next I think but we are in the middle of grape harvest which takes priority over brewing for now. Kinda hard to keep up with bottling at times for that matter

After wrapping it --- with whatever you choose (tape, twine, cloth, etc.) --- slide a wide band of wiring heat-shrink over it and shrink it. The heat-shrink is not the best for abrasion resistance; but since the cap will cover it (and be stationary), it should hold for a long time. No adhesive to worry about in the hot temps.

Very good idea I hadn’t thought about heat shrink. I applied gorilla tape if it doesn’t work I’ll try the heat shrink

Unfortunately got to test some of my plans this weekend

Many of my neighbors are still without power and the gas stations are running out of gas because people are unprepared thanks to Hurricane Helene

Yeah anything that reduces your dependence on gasoline/grid power/etc.

On a side note, lots of folks using HAM for emcomms. And Starlink.

Wife and I were members of our local CERT for a few years. Family Obligations had us step back this year with the hopes of coming back after we get the elderly's cared for.

Our area of Semi-Rurual AZ is perched right on the northern edge of the Phoenix Metro Area. 10 minutes to the south you are smack dab in down. 10 minutes to the north and you are in 1933 real quick. We have 10 gas stations but 5 of them are Circle k and under normal circumstances frequently out of gas. There are NO gas stations for another 30 miles to our north. In the event of a massive emergency (we don't really get hurricanes) there would be insufficient gas in the area to meet demand.

Our CERT has started replacing Gasoline Powered Generators with Solar Generators because they can be used in and around medical equipment and don't spark wildfires (big problem out here). This free's us up from being dependent on supply lines for fuel.

Yeah, that's one reason we have a PHEV. 40 miles of electric range if used for transport, 18kWh of battery that I can pull out using an inverter, gasoline if available. I can even charge it off the camping offgrid panels (if slowly).

Honda makes an AWESOME Inverter Generator. And if you rig it up for Dual Fuel, you are miles ahead.
