As a life-long climber and wilderness skier, we're always getting bashed by the rash youngsters. We point out that they shouldn't mess with the old guys, we didn't get that way by being stupid.Mt Blanc de Cheilon at dawn from Dix hut.jpg

Pops is 60 and he has his sights set on a 16 Tacoma. Had a 15 lined up but when he went to buy it the dealer said they accidentally quoted it $1,000 too low to him over the internet. He flipped them the bird and walked out.

So this brings up an interesting topic.. or rather, reminds me of Fight Club, where the main character has a soliloquy about the brand of furniture, his wardrobe, watch, all his material possessions and status symbols, his "checkboxes" he had to meet on what society defines as success or how one progresses through life (until the fire/explosion).

And to most who watch the movie, it is a fictional thing that occurs, do we really judge each other on our "progress" and milestones in life based on material possession? In short, it is blatant that we do. We are constantly afraid/concerned/cognizant of what others think of us. Which is neither good nor bad but the key is balance.
The real question is do you think you are too old for your possessions? -Because I will gladly relieve you of your material problems sir. But seriously, you are only as old/mature as you think you are sir. Apologies for rambling.

68 here and got a 2015 (traded in a 2013). Love it with the mods I've done.

People who think you should drive a certain car at a certain age. You said it "ridiculous" Sounds judgemental to me. I drive a Tacoma because it's the most logical thing to do when needing a reliable pickup with 4x4, that gets good gas mileage. Besides looking pretty cool (my opinion of course) you can't argue with the fact that the Tacoma is the top seller of pickups in it's category in the US. Didn't Tupac drive a Lexus? haha

I'm guessing the guy makes more bad decisions than average, including the decision to not drive a Tacoma just because of his age.

No. I'm 46 and these are sensible vehicles... reliable, efficient, safe, fun, stylish, rugged/tough, etc. It hauls my dirt bikes, firewood, camping gear, surfboard, pretty much anything that I'd want to carry at this point in my life. I don't have a boat or a 5th wheel and very rarely need to haul anything over 1000 pounds. (If I needed to tow trailers or haul big loads, I would have bought a full-size or HD.) So I plan to drive it for a long time, at least for the foreseeable future.

It's not about age or gender or what anyone is "supposed" to drive. Although to be honest, it creeps me out when I see a man driving a new beetle (or a convertible rabbit back in the day). Dude, just... NO

I'm 40 and just purchased my first Tacoma. I have been driving full size for trucks for the last 12 years. I noticed that most of the 2nd generation Tacoma drivers around where I live are older. Many of the 1st generation Tacoma drivers seem younger. I miss my full size truck but like the fuel mileage and handy size of the 2015 Doublecab Tacoma Pre Runner I just purchased last month.

64 y/o on my 4th, 62 y/o wife still loves riding in Tacoma but it's probably due to the driver. I have noticed the older I get the more I like to add little touches to make it different ( plasti dip, trd wheel mod, etc.). Hope to be around for one Tacoma down the road. As with most things in life follow your heart and don't be unduly influenced by other opinions.

63 yr. old, also on my 4th Tacoma. I would buy another dirt bike too, if I had someone to ride with.

I bought my Tacoma 2 years ago at 50 and my age was never a consideration.

I was tired of keeping 3-4 cars knowing that, as a single man, only one of them was being driven at any single time and, even when that one was being driven, I was the only passenger 95% of the time. Sooo, I decided to get rid of everything and go with one vehicle, but I wanted something that was so versatile I would only need one, and something with a history of reliability.

I gotta say, I don't think I could have done any better for my needs than to go with the Tacoma and there isn't anything I can't do with this truck that I need to do. And, while I do have some concerns about rusted frame and soft rear suspension in the future, my regret is that I didn't buy one sooner.
