That doesnt look like a flop because he was posing on a rock. That truck is trashed in the front. It rolled hard. Could the driver maybe have not set the park brake properly and it rolled away while he was outside? Hopefully everyone is okay.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe someone was driving too fast?

That thought crossed my mind...bombing a long, lost control and flipped. But the lack of apparent tracks is puzzling. Looks like it dropped from the sky

And it's so clean. I'd expect it to be dirtier if he had been moving fast.

At least it'll be an easy recovery. Get it back on its wheels, let it sit for a bit, and (after opening the hood and inspecting) fire it up.

This is true. And yet, somehow I keep ending up with dark colors.

On this one I'd expect some heavier accumulation on the inside of the wheelwells and fenders though, especially with puddles like the one in the photos.

My latest is he rolled down from that next switchback, it's not very far.

Not to derail the thread, but does this year seem to be a crazier year for this stuff in Colorado (for all you non-Coloradans peepin' this thread) than in the recent past? Social media has been around long enough that I don't think it can be blamed anymore. I'm wondering if it was the crazy winter and late snow melt helped to rush folks, or something.

Black Bear closed 2x for rollovers or maybe 3x, and it just opened.
Seems it’s a trail a day having some kind of incident .

I had to look at this on a screen bigger than an iPhone SE.

This was a roll, in my opinion. Front end damage, B pillar, side mirrors....

We were up at Red Cone last weekend and it was interesting to say the least.

I'm going to sound harsh, but please don't take this as a personal attack (and I recognize that edits of posts to add pictures or comments can change the context of when things were said).

These are the kind of bullshit speculation / inciting comments that we don't need. I don't have a problem with the 'maybe he was trying to pose on the rocks' because that's certainly a legitimate possibility from the info presented. But jumping right into 'can't have nice things' and 'Instagram motivations' without knowing anything about what really happened doesn't help anything and definitely can lead to issues when people pick up speculation and start repeating it as fact. Make your judgements after the full story is known.

Yes, clearly the truck is 'off trail' and given the fact that it's on its side, not supposed to be there. However out in the middle of a field? It's one or maybe two car lengths from the trail. Furthermore, the location allows dispersed camping according to the MVUM. I mention this because some are of the opinion that designation makes being off but close to the trail ok (I personally don't share this opinion, as I believe off-trail is only ok to camp under that particular exception). Now obviously given the location in the fork of a road on a hillside this isn't a camping spot and if this were a result of posing on rocks I'd be right there with you condemning it, but it's certainly not 'in the middle of a field', driving through a wet area, or having caused obvious resource damage like some recent pictures of people driving around avalanche debris and vehicles stuck on trail.

I see a piece of debris, possible the rear shell cargo rack crossmember, just to the up-trail or picture right of the vehicle. That's also the only spot I really see torn up dirt. Driver mirror is trashed, front end significantly so, and passenger step isn't straight though who knows if that was this or something prior. There's more damage to the front end than seen in the Black Bear rollover a couple days ago. Airbags deployed there too despite being a slow roll, and I'm pretty sure the bags go off period if the vehicle goes past a certain tilt, but I admittedly don't know the exact conditions required - just that it can vary. Can't really see passenger side.

I don't see enough damage to vehicle or ground to indicate it rolled very far or fast. This is generally the same area though not as far up as the guy who rolled his 'bought not built' rig a few years ago when he tried to drive around on the edge of a snowdrift and got too far off the side. At this point only penadam is in a position to get more info as far as tracks and damage that might suggest where the vehicle came from and what happened, past that it'd probably be better if we just wait to hear what really happened. Then you can get the pitchforks out.

Seems pretty normal to me. There's always incidents, you just don't necessarily hear about them and I'm sure social media has led to an increase in reports. I do think this year is a bit different in that snow kept things closed longer so there might be a bigger surge in crowds later in the season as things open up. And just the general increase in use trend overall.

I don't know the area and was speculating, but from my understanding in most places in the west..... if there is no marked trail, then you shouldn't be there. I wasn't trying incite anything, just more of asking a question. The only pic I saw at first did not show the trail 200 feet from the truck. Just 2 rocks, a lot of green undisturbed terrain and a truck on its side.

Yes, that's generally a good way to look at it as far as marked trail, and that's the best black and white approach. But there are exceptions and gray areas, and a wide variety of opinions on interpreting things.

Like I said, not an attack and I acknowledge more info may be presented later that changes context of earlier comments - but every picture I see right now clearly shows the trail only a few feet from the front of the vehicle. And I don't think anyone is trying to incite something, just not recognizing that their comment can do so. Making judgements prior to knowing the full story or all the facts can lead to that, including the way in which you ask questions. The last big 'incident' here on the forum, someone more assumed and said than asked though there was a question mark at the end whether OP had just driven around a gate. People immediately picked up on that and started repeating it like it was what had happened, even though it didn't. In the past people have seen a picture and gone 'you're off trail!' and a followup picture shows that no, they weren't.

Fair criticism. However, I would like to point out that pictures like these, regardless of context, can and do get used by people with an agenda to push.

Anytime a vehicle is off trail for any reason it is a risk to the hobby. No grey area.
