Dropped the rifle off at my local gun store, Weber's Guns, to get the bore slugged and the chamber cast so we could check caliber. I also asked them to do a cursory inspection to ensure its safe to shoot. They told me I should hear back from them tomorrow. :fingerscrossed:

I know. I'm excited, too, lol.

We tried a round on the muzzle end and there was some space, so hoping for good news.

Most likely, but late year Arisakas and a few non-"last ditch" Type 99s were also re-chambered for .30-06 for use in Korea, the Philippines and Thailand. The only thing we know for a fact about this "Last Ditch" is that it's not commercially imported, and was originally manufactured at the Nagoya Arsenal between late 1944 and early 1945 originally intended for use by the reserves.

Edited to add: this was also apparently bubba'd so caliber could be questionable. The strength of the receivers made then good for high pressure calibers. There was also a lot of play for the round we tested in the bore, so we're hoping it's in its original 7.7mm, but i would be just as happy with a .30-06 variant. No sense risking it.

Won an auction for a Nagoya "Last Ditch" stick that requires very minor repairs for $99.

I'll drill and glass the small spots to reinforce and increase the longevity of the new (to me) stock.

    Here's some pics:

    s-l400 (1).jpg
    s-l400 (2).jpg
    s-l400 (3).jpg
    s-l400 (4).jpg

All of this is easily fixed with Acraglass and reinforcement. It will be fun to make this stock useful, again.

Picked up the rifle from the gunsmith. Confirmed bore at .315 and caliber at 7.7mm Jap. The replacement stock has also come in, but it'll need some in-letting and crack repair to fit my receiver and bottom metal.

    Speaking of stabby...

So I'm doing research now on the bayonet. There are Asian characters, which I'm assuming are Japanese, so I'll start there. For this reason, I'm reading up on the Type 30 bayonet, its variants and its markings.

The bayonet is pretty rusty and it won't attach to my rifle. The locking assembly is rusted/stuck and the circle/ring the barrel goes through is also bent.
