Just a bunch of old crap
They are most useful for understanding the structure below you. Marking fish on the screen is just a bonus. I use mine to find dropoffs and larger structure, which historically always mark more densities of fish, or at least larger ones. Use it to look for submerged old creekbeds, significant drops, submerged trees/brush, etc. The fish will be there.

Look at the Lowrance lineup. Top stuff with multiple screens, good GPS mapping/waypoints, color screens, water temps, etc. Priced right, too.

Black river which is more like a creek where you are from has been good to me at times. Mostly I fish the lakes in this area because they are close, it has been hit and miss so far this year because of weird weather (had an inch of snow last weekend) but should improve as the water warms a little.
14 ft. Aluminum boat w/5 hp motor, minnkota trolling motor works best for me when it is a little windy. Don't get to use the float tube as much because the kids are usually with me. Good luck.

Went down to Parker canyon lake this weekend and was surprised to pull this 22" channel cat out around sunset on Friday. It's not a great pic because the line snapped when I got him out the water so I stabbed it in the head to prevent it getting back into the water.IMG_20170630_191109126.jpg
Here's some scenery shots from the trip
    IMG_20170701_191555209.jpg IMG_20170630_153458820_HDR.jpg IMG_20170630_144348188.jpg IMG_20170630_153543366.jpg IMG_20170630_150916314.jpg

Also, I pulled in two of these guys who had both swallowed the hook, so I kept them. I think they're green sunfish. Can anybody confirm the species for me?IMG_20170630_185529670.jpg
Notice the black spot on the gills flap.

Any recommendations for a fishing pole? I haven't fished since I was a kid and just got my license.

I have a Shakespeare lake and pond pole. It's about $30 at Target or Walmart. It's nothing fancy but it's worked well for me so far.

Well I took advantage of my paternity leave today and went up to rose canyon lake early this morning. I got my limit on rainbow trout and brought home a metric fuck-ton of crayfish. Pretty good morning. Lots of tasty eats!

Yea, rose canyon is crawling with them. That was 3 traps for about 6 hours. They're pretty much everywhere you look in rose canyon. I had 6 traps out in Parker canyon lake overnight about a month ago and didn't get one damn crayfish, just lots of baby sunfish. I think I was in the wrong area. Gotta set the traps on the dam.

Ive never trapped crawdads. Always just grabbed them by hand. wouldn't dog food disappear in the water after awhile?
