That's a massive rainbow! Must of put up quite a fight.

Went fishing up at Bear Canyon and Chevelon Canyon this weekend. Buddy caught a 3 1/2# 19 inch Brown at Chevelon. Caught 7 small rainbows at Canyon. finish-8_5a4561bc6ca9e7558d914e7ef912db448ccbe856.jpgfinish-4_9f6b8c5ee3d502dca6e6913b7df3f1c0aa831425.jpgfinish-3-1_e264611cfa906e92214a54ed43af3ba9f74741ef.jpgfinish-41_70923cdb2dfc296e65524116f4e31407378189ff.jpg

I'm having the same problem at Pleasant with the white bass. Can't get into any schools... just small stripers here and there.

Just a bunch of old crap
Yellow Cliffs is always where they spend most of their time in summer, but with that water so low, I think that whole lake is chaotic right now.

Back up the Agua Fria is where they're hanging out. I'm seeing huge night surface action busting the shad up right at sunset and on nights with big moons. Saw them all over on the backside of Pleasant this past Sunday night up in the tighter coves that have deeper channels in them.

Lake Pleasant has been a dud for the past couple years for any catfish action, which breaks my heart because it's so close to my house. Anyways, found a new cove that had some good baitfish action so I cast out some cut baits.

First catch was this 18" non-native spiny softshell turtle. That's a first for me.

Unfortunately my circle hook was deep down his throat and I wasn't going to lose a finger trying to find it with the small pliers that I had. I cut him loose and he swam off.

My only other catch was this little 4# channel cat. Great color and a healthy weight though. That's a good sign. There were so many crayfish in this cove, that must be what these guys feed on because I didn't see any bluegill. Tons of bass fry in the area, and the shad always come through though.

It wouldn't be a summer night out on the desert lakes without finding a bazillion of these:

I live on Myrna Lane, if you ever drive by you'll see my truck outside.

Was up at willow springs two months ago and didn't catch a thing in the 4 hours we were there. The 40 mph wind gusts didn't help:(
Bear canyon is always a winner, although I've caught nothing larger than 9-10 inches so far this year.

I was up in late April and we did good. I would fish early and late with the warmer weather. If you have a boat or float tube the back cove is nice .

June 19 report - Az game and fish

WILLOW SPRINGS LAKE – Fishing is good. The lake will be stocked this week with 3,190 rainbow trout. Anglers are catching trout on PowerBait.

For the high country, this is the time when trout are starting to head deeper. You will likely have the best luck at first and last light. You can expect the action to be a little slower during the warmer hours of the day. Fishing the bottom or trolling seems to be the best techniques once trout enter their summer patterns.
The deeper lakes, such as Big Lake, Willow Springs, Bear Canyon, Blue Ridge and Chevelon, will often have a little better action as we move into summer conditions.
    Good luck!

At Chevelon we used spinners and rapalas. Bear Canyon is all about the powerbait, we had a lot of luck with the white and orange.Good luck!

At Chevelon it's probably about a mile from the campground to the dam. Its all down hill so be prepared for the hike back up. We did it carrying two kayaks and it took us about 20 minutes down and about 45 minutes up. From where we camped it was only a 10 minute hike down to the water but to get there you need 4x4 and the hike is pretty much straight down a cliff with switchbacks until you get back to a cove. That's where we caught the brown but if you're just doing a day trip go to the campground, 100x easier.
