Hello all, I will be moving to Arizona soon and I'm bringing a 1996 tacoma v6 (fvz-fe). I'm originally from Kansas and lived in Colorado for a spell, neither state required me to do vehicle inspections in the counties I lived in. I'm curious as to what I need to have in order for the inspection. I understand that I will have to pass smog inspection, I am not too worried about this as the engine is sound and runs well. However I can't say the same for the suspension, steering components and body parts.

Will a comprehensive inspection be performed where the play in tie rods and rack and pinion steering is assessed?

Will I get dinged for the crack in my windshield?

Both the front diff seals are leaking a bit, problem here?

Its got a little rust, will that be a problem?

What can I expect and what should I be prepared to face bringing an older vehicle to AZ state inspections.

Thanks in for your time. I will be moving to Glendale Arizona (NW Phoenix area).

    Hi

it depends on where you live Maricopa county is the only one that requires a smog test if I'm not mistaken, so any where else you should be good:thumbsup:

I would suggest going to an Authorized 3rd Party Office. I believe they charge an additional $30, but just the amount of time you will save, NOT standing in line, is worth it!

I registered an out-of-state car (170k, a cracked windshield, and various drips) last month; other than the emissions test, which takes about 5 minutes, no one even looked it.

Side note...since you are transferring registration from out of state, if you want things to go very smoothly, have your title with you (in addition to current registration, proof of insurance, emissions test, etc.). They may not ask for it, but it seemed to help things along when I did it.

Maricopa and Pima (Tucson) Counties require Emissions testing.

Arizona does not currently have a vehicle safety equipment inspection program, ended in the 60's.
