Also decided to go with some 295/70/17's Trail Grapplers now that I've heard of your results. It'll be nice dropping from the procomp in 35's. Thankfully I've only put about 8K miles on them. Who wants some 35x12.50 procomp A/T's ha?! Shipping will only be like $1000 =D!

Good lookin truck. I've pretty much read your whole post and haven't found what kind of backspacing or offset your running. Unless I missed it some how. Info would be greatly appreciated!

    Offset is -12
Backspacing is 4.5 (actually 4.53, but everyone just calls it 4.5)

    Just the basics
So couldn't go through your whole build. Very nice. I know I've commented on your truck somewhere before. Quick noob question: your OME leafpack has quite a few leafs. What is the purpose of so many? Does it soften the ride while providing a benefit in suspension?

The # of leafs (along with their arch) give the lift. With this set, it's 2.75". Stock leaf-packs, at least when I measured it, was close to 1.3".

Where did you get your hood painted at? I thought I'd ask and see if you recommend anyone around phoenix before I find some random place. And how was the color matching after? Sick truck by the way.

I had Toyota's collision center/ body paint shop do the work. Matches perfect, all the way around, even under the hood.

did you lose a lot of power and mpg with the 295's? and have you regeared for the 295's? if not, do you think it's helpful/necessary and that you will in the future?

I didn't notice much difference in mileage or power loss going to the 295's, but that's because I was already riding around on 285's. Coming from a 255 or 265, I am sure it's much more noticeable.

Re-gearing would be helpful... BUT, most of my driving is ton on the freeways here in the valley. I use my truck for work and play.. so it never sees much street driving. Therefore, IMO, re-gearing to an aggressive set-up would make my freeway drives to/ from work brutal. I would always be at a higher RPM than stock if I re-geared to something that allowed more torque. Plus, my gas mileage would suffer. So, long story short is that for me... the negatives outweigh the positives for a re-gear.

Actually, In most cases, a re gear bumps up MPG, as the engine is not working as hard.

On the highway at 80? My RPMS would be higher though, no? The engine would be working harder the entire time, save merging onto the freeway and passing people.

Different gearing ratios than stock (referred to as re-gearing) and tire size change the power band of the engine. In my opinion, and for most applications, there's nothing wrong with running stock gearing with tire sizes <35". With 285s/295s, the truck certainly will not be as "peppy" on the freeway with stock gearing but I have had no issues. Straight off-the-line acceleration may not be as responsive, nor is towing... but I rarely tow vehicles or drag race from dead stops.

Chris is correct though. In 9/10 driving applications, re-gearing will give you a slight increase in MPG. The 1/10 is highway cruising... but then again, even that depends on how heavy your lead foot is.

OP what is the actual size of your tires. I mean I know that they are a 295/70, but what standard dimensions did it actually come out to? Were they just over 33" new, or closer to 34"s? Thanks
