Last Monday I had my door kicked in by a guy holding a gun while I was standing 10 feet away. I ran out the back door to avoid getting shot. He grabbed my keys off the counter and stole my truck in Tucson, AZ. TPD are working the case. Anyone know if there are any recovery devices that come stock on 2015s? My guess is the truck is deep in Mexico at this point but hoping for a recovery.

    Non, unless you installed one.

I think you need to start shopping for a new truck...underwear as well. I know I would be.

Truck can be replaced. Glad you were not hurt.

    Scary shit.

That’s why I always have my gun near me when I’m at home ( and carry on me when I’m outside the home).

Glad you’re safe but you can probably kiss your truck goodbye

Sorry to hear about the gun part, too bad you couldn't have blasted him.

I had a Dodge Ram stolen when I lived in Phoenix about 15 years ago (while eating lunch in Tempe for only a few minutes). After about 3 weeks, I got a call that they found it in an apartment complex in Phoenix. It had a bunch of those little Corona bottles in it (8 oz) that at that time we used to only see in Mexico when vacationing down there. Also a ton of sunglasses. So not all hope is lost, my truck made its way to Mexico and back (I believe), and then insurance fixed it up better than it ever was!

Glad you are OK. Sounds scary as hell. Running was the right choice - even if you had a fire arm running would still be the best choice!

I'm pretty certain there are no recovery/tracking devices stock on any Tacoma. The V6 engines have an immobilizer so it is much more difficult to hot wire since you need a chipped key - but since this guy grabbed your keys no help there. The 4cyl doesn't have an immobilizer and can therefore be hot wired pretty easily.

I suspect you are right the thing is in Mexico by now.

You can install a variety of trackers either cell phone or satellite based in addition to the classic "lo-jack" system of the 1990s.

You came out OK. Even if you were armed, if they get the drop on you, not much you can do.

Was carjacked and kidnapped from my own garage at gunpoint back in 1991. Spent years thinking about how to avoid. Only thing I could come up with was something like a bad ass dog at guard to encourage criminals to move on to an easier target. If someone approaches with a gun and you arent paying attention or watching them as they do it, doesnt even matter if you are armed.

i am so glad you are okay. pure brilliance running..i would have done the exact same thing..even if armed.

my brother had his door kicked in (while he was away). he had a commercial door company build him a steel framed pre-hung door. i think there are four hinges..and two deadbolts. it is damn near armor at this time.

Wise comments. I very much believe in being armed and defending yourself, but having a gun doesn't make you immune, and you never draw on a drawn gun, etc. Not to get into that, just throwing in my support for the wise course of action. Live to fight another day. Time and a place for everything.
