Anyone have experience with this? I'll be there over Christmas this year and can't find much online. Mainly looking to find out what days it takes place to plan with family

Looking at the calendar, probably the 22nd to the 1st. You’ll find out for sure sometime after you get there.

I did this when I went its 2 weeks long so I would assume 21 to the 4 th I would stay there and use your leave when u get done with Training I went on Christmas Leave and went start to Germany no leave U will be going in the hole for Christmas Leave plus no one will be there to fuck with u so its not too bad all this info will depend if your OSUT or your AIT is at another location good luck its going to suck
And your not going to BOOT CAMP your not a MARINE

My nephew was in Navy boot last Christmas, his mother went up there for Christmas. They were allowed to be signed out by family members on Christmas. I'm sure the Army will do things a little different (every service does), but I would think an option like this would be available if you choose to stay. I would stay, were I in your shoes. Starting out in the hole for leave is a bad idea. As B33 said, it will be a much-relaxed environment over the holidays.

I personally wouldn’t take the leave so I could rack up some for later, however, if you go to the 82nd don’t expect to be able to take leave when you want. Just my experience but every command and mos seems to do thing differently, good luck!!

Above answers are correct. About two weeks long. I took leave myself and it wasn't an issue since my training pipeline was fairly long. If you have a month long AIT, you'll be showing up to your first duty station with few, if any, leave days (which isn't that big of a deal anyways). I enjoyed my HBL (holiday block leave) and recommend that you enjoy it as well, although the one guy that stayed back while everyone else was on leave said that it was pretty chill. You do you.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Funny this pops up... My youngest son leaves for Basic Training tomorrow.

We'll find out after he gets there when he'll get Xmas leave.

OP... where are you going to Basic? My kid is headed to Ft. Sill in Oklahoma. Pretty cool cause, my oldest did BCT at Jackson South Carolina, my middle went to BCT at Benning in Georgia... I was hoping my youngest would go to either Sill in Oklahoma or Leonard Wood in Missouri so they all went to different States.

I was in ait in fort Eustus Virginia while the new recruits got out of basic and showed up to us. They got around 2 weeks leave, I wasnt able to leave but it was pretty sweet. They was cool and took us to the war monuments in Virginia.

Now, this was in AIT so basic will be different. I would go ahead and take leave if your family lives near, no point in getting somewhere half way across the world and not really wanting to take it do to a plane ticket.

It’s a shame the army doesn’t issue grammar textbooks. God knows you could use one.

I go to benning in a week for basic, and my AIT is combined with it. Called one unit training or something like that.

OSUT = One Station Unit Training

Better get used to acronyms... The Army has one for everything.

As a former OSUT cadre at Sill I can tell you they want to get everyone out of there, because it lets all the Cadre off also. They can't force you to take leave, however. But if you stay, you'll all move into one bay, to be babysat by a (single) DS that really doesn't want to be on duty.... so beware. Lots of crappy detail duty.

I'm assuming your MOS is 11B if you're going to Benning and you are OSUT. My middle kid did that, he's almost done with his first contract.

Nice! My middle son actually wanted to do Cav Scout but the MOS was already filled for the year when he went to sign his contract.

My last year before retiring in the army I helped orchestrate that cluster they call winter exodus out of Fort Jackson. Trying to get a few thousand privates home for leave on planes, trains and automobiles is as fun as it sounds.
