I'm with you. Vehicles aren't an appliance to me. I mostly only watch the reliability part of CR...their judgement in more subjective parts of their overall ratings are based on criteria that they value differently than me.

I can see some valid points.
As far as comfort/ride/handling etc it is very similar to my 2000 4Runner. But that truck was so good I kept it as my daily driver for 17 years. I absolutely loved it.
The 6 speed auto does take some getting used to. It doesn't seem to have the oomph my 4 runner with the 4 speed auto did. But the 6 speed gets much better gas mileage.
And the high pressure fuel pump is noisy. Like a diesel. But overall the cabin is pretty quiet.
Also, I recently drove a Volvo SUV rental car, it did have things like lane departure, blind spot warning etc. The Tacoma doesn't, so it does feel a little 2000ish in that respect.
Overall though I'm happy. I wanted a truck and got a truck. I like the better gas mileage and IT FITS IN MY GARAGE!
If it is as reliable as I expect, it will score a 100 in my opinion. That is mainly why I went with the Tacoma vs. the competition.

Then either you babied it to the extreme or you just have one of the few that was lucky enough to not come with new product problems. My 07 is at 99,500 right now and I am replacing the entire power steering system, valve cover gaskets, and completely flushing both ps and tranny. She's been used like a good rug from day 1, and I always make sure to wipe my feet :D

hahahahahaha. not at all. In fact I abused her, but I guess she just loves me. I had to replace some parts, but rarely. I replaced the rack and pinion at 225k, water pump at 202k, tranny drain and fill at 100k internals. She a work/commuter truck actually. I've also changed the valve cover gaskets twice, cause my friend did a bad job on the first one. Hitting 321k this weekend.

Ok then I take that back, she must just treat you well. It's usually after the first 2 years of production of a new vehicle that most, and I say most, kinks are worked out in the new design. In original post, not stating every 05-06 had problems, it's just those are the main years for major issues that tsb's were issued. Of course we had the leafs later on and frame rust issues but they've been mostly taken care of by now, truck runs fantastic besides that. You did the leaf change too right?

I've always looked at CR as a magazine for noobs and clueless people.
    Never touch it.

Shebudgets mag has been quoted here as a source for Tacoma reviews. Do you put faith in that also LOL ?

Since you did not read Post #33 l will give you a quick summary. If any review is positive then the White Knights love it and say those people are spot on, if there is a negative review then the White Knights claim they are clueless and have no idea what they are talking about. Obviously the White Knights will like your Shebudget review if it is a good one.

And if there is the smallest of an issue with one truck in the world the usual people (smit, shake, etc) are all over it for hours on end.
I heard about howling holes for 6 months, big issue.
Then all CPS's were failing, the glass was the weakest in the world, soy wiring, etc etc etc.
It works both ways, give me a break.
17 is the same as 16 and score high in owner reliability survey, so what gives ?????
What gives it is CR is a joke.
Knowing there are 2 sides to a story is smart, knowing what to believe is genius.
