Asbestos in brakes???

You are fine to wash your truck. As long as you are not breathing the dust you are fine. I would suspect it would take prolonged exposure.

 

Going to add to this post : If you guys are working around any strange chemicals , do the smart thing and get the air tested or make the company test it . This is 2013 , not 1942 . I know its a pain in the @ss to wear a respirator but think about it .If your workplace is exposing you to substances that you are unaware of and you become sick wether it be today or much further down the line , at least they have done their part by making sure you are protected from them .

 

"Popcorn" ceiling and wall coatings prior to the early 1980s were asbestos. Manufacture was banned in 1978, but existing supplies were not banned from installation... took about 5 years to finally clear the pipeline.

And no, it's not that big of an issue for consumers.
Occupational exposure is a big deal. If you are working on cars doing brake jobs every day, then there is a legitimate concern.
For infrequent casual exposure taking normal precautions, it's not a big deal.

It does. Shit's full of asbestos. Had no idea.

 

Still used in some floor coverings and commercial roofing mastic.
The product is not banned. We import some 800 tons every year from Canada.

 

Canada doesn't produce asbestos anymore

And if you ever feel exposed to asbestos or lead at your work or by just simply passing by a construction site with no warning signs log it down the date location what u think u were exposed to and if possible the foreman never know u could probably win some money down the road

 

And contribute to what's wrong with this country?

Just if your ever diagnosed with asbestosis or something I'm sure u want to know where u got exposed and of course make some money for your family before u die

 

I will probably figure it's from living in Los Angeles, and I have damned good life insurance for my family.

Life insurance is cheap, especially if you buy it at your age.

 

I've heard, but not sure how true it is, that fiberglass is now a concern for the same reasons as asbestos. The reason its not confirmed yet though is it hasn't been around long enough to know the results of what it can do to lungs.

Scary to think about some of the shit I've been exposed to. Common practice for me to use compressed air on a brake drum.

On the subject, all of my duct work in my house is wrapped in asbestos.

 

Yes fiberglass the name speaks for itself think thin strans of hair made of glass that you inhale into your lungs and once in you cannot bring out so these glass fiber are now in your lungs anything in your lungs that not just clean air is bad for you
