Problem is, I go pretty slow (sub 12mph) if I want to listen for pokemon pops. It's hard to hear sometimes because I keep the phone in a draw string bag on my back.

I leave my sound fx on but when someone texts me the app looses all sound.. Which really sucks when driving, gotta look at the phone or see if I caught something..

 

what's it like when it looses all sound? can you feel it loosening up?

 

I just hold my phone and wait for it to vibrate pretty much most of the time I play

I always have headphones in when I ride, on the trails. Not so much on the road. I also have a little rear view mirror on my helmet so I can see people/cars coming up on me.
