Hello from DFW,TX! The wife and I are looking to move to Asheville, and just seeking out some info..

We go to Asheville a lot, and finally decided this is where we want to settle in. My wife will hopefully be attending WCU CRNA program soon, and we will be moving there. We live in a nice area of the metroplex here in DFW, and would like to find something similar...

We have looked in Arden and some of south asheville but didnt find anything we liked in the 350K or less home price range..I know that doesnt buy a lot in the Asheville area, but its what we want to spend considering our house in DFW is 5bdrm 4bath 4k sq ft on a big lot for only 250k new built in 2005.

Basically just looking for ideas on where to look for housing and any other info about schools (soon will have kiddo)...

I know job market is kind of hit or miss round there ( I am a Paramedic, wife is RN) so any info on that would be great too!

Welcome, my family and I love it there also, alot to do and great food and hometown brewers also. As far as the job market goes, it is healthy in those fields. Housing on the other hand is expensive.Check out Candler just west of downtown, might find something in that price range. Remember Houses with a view cost.

Nice recommendation...we will check it out..not really concerned about view beings though we are huge outdoors folks (camping, hiking, kayaking, biking) so we get those when we are out..

The further away from downtown the cheaper. They also host the Overland Expo in Fletcher, right up your alley. It's a bit pricey but well worth it.

Hope you find something, great place to raise kids. Waiting for the wife to retire, and that's where we will be. Already retired from the fire service. It's her turn now. Both of my kids love it there. My best friend lives there also. An excuse to go see him and his family.

    Asheville rules.

I've been there three separate times from NY for mountain biking. I've always thought about moving there.

There are some really great places in Asheville for her to get used to being on dirt.

And there are some awesome advanced level places too.

This thread is really making me miss the place.

She will hike 14+ up a mountain, but you stick her on a bike in a lower elevation on unsteady ground and she fills up a big bucket of hell no lmao

I miss the beaches but not the traffic, grew up around Forest Hill Blvd. and also worked for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue .Then moved from there when my daughter was born to South Carolina where time stood still.Took alot of getting use to.

That where I got my first board ,and purchased 3 skateboards from them.My grandparents had a house on Maddock st. just behind the Publix and the only house that was next to the park , backyard was right next to the Forest Hill Country club golf course. where I learned to play golf.

My wife completed the CRNA program at WCU a few years ago and now works in the hospital here in Asheville.

You may consider looking in the Kenilworth neighborhood which borders the hospital. It's a little pricy, but being close to the hospital might be a good thing for all those clinical hours she will have to put in!

The classes are held in south Asheville so that may be something to consider, too. Not as "hip" as the rest of town though.

We love it here. Been in Asheville since '99 and can't imagine living anywhere else.
