    I've worked in Seattle area restaurants for 20 years. We all groan when the Canadian credit cards come out. Here comes my 10% tip. I love visiting BC. And find the people to be super cool. My Mom lived in the Vancouver area for 5 years. I was up there a lot. But when it comes time to pay the bill the gratuity was always shit. You're in a different country. Look up our customs and procedures. Standard in any guide book.

    Maybe if you didn't suck at your job you would get a better tip... or you could not bitch about the size of the tip and just be thankful you got a tip at all. Now assuming the server and food is good, I have no issue tipping 15% or more. I've had some shitty servers give me dirty looks when they get their $2 tip for a $50 bill, maybe they shouldn't have left me and my gf sitting there for 20 minutes with empty drinks.

    Totally agree on the service = gratuity %. Obviously I'm biased towards myself but I've worked in some of the higher end places in Seattle for a LONG time so I think my service is usually pretty good if not stellar. I re-read my earlier post and realized it came off as combative. Didn't mean it to. I've always wanted to ask a Canadian patron about the Can.-U.S differences on tipping in general, but never thought in the restaurant was a good place for this discussion. When I saw "Ask a Canadian'...well, I did. Sorry if I've offended anyone. And dude, stop going to places that would let you sit like that. That's bullshit. I wouldn't tip either.

    I always thought that Canadian waitstaff got paid higher wages than U.S. does. Kind of like my buddies who bartend in Copenhagen. Hmmm....guess I'm a stupid American after all.
