Make sure there is a video camera to record everything. This could be very epic. But on the pain side, I have never had one, but have heard that root canals are painful as hell, even when your on pain killers.

 Nothing is "free" in this world. Was your truck "free"? How about our liberties, were those free? That the aforementioned alternatives are available show that when an individual needs care it is still given.

Or you brush your teeth twice a day, floss, and use mouth wash. Then you don't need a dentist.

Work only provides the opportunity to brush with a bottle of water and an old tooth brush for a year but they also provide full dental:D

This is a book given to THIRD WORLD VILLAGES where the nearest doctor is... dead anyway. You are making a mistake.
The first rule of medical practice is "do no harm"---

Take a good look at your tools --- do they look like they cause harm?

Video tape it - not for posteriety, but for your legal defense team. Get some manner of signed consent.
I usually keep such consent forms filed between - "It's Rough, but not Rape" and "Better Health through Better Bleedings" under the heading "My First Root Canal, by Fisher Price"

Disclaimer...I'm not an actual dentist, but I play one on the Internet.
Before attempting this, make sure you have the number for emergency handy.
First off, open his mouth wide enough to cram a 2x4 in. Get yourself a drill motor with a 5/32 carbide bit, and start drilling. Don't go too far or you'll end up going through the nasal cavity (if this happens, stop right there and tell your friend not to sneeze for the next 2 months.) You'll know when to stop when you hear any load screams or notice alot of blood on the carpet. Now, get out the dremel, attach a pin router bit, and hog the hole out large enough to be able to extract the effected material out with a flat head screw driver or crow bar. If your friend is still there, it's time to clean up and pack the hole. Get the shop vac and suck all the chips and broken stuff out. To close up the tooth (if there's anything left) tap the hole and screw a bolt in, or just fill the hole with some putty or elmer's glue. If that isn't readily available, get out the caulking gun.
