Hmmph, yeah that is a little ways away. Must have been a Revelstoke or Cranbrook crew. Pretty stupid if you ask me.. Why not just fly them...

I started out doing interfacility transports. I think my record FUBAR 20+ hour day was @ 800 miles over 5 transports. F#$% that. Also did Albuquerque to Denver twice. one of those left at 0200 after running 911 all day on 3 hours sleep. no bueno. and no hotel room provided by by the company. just drive 6 hours home on no sleep. noooo problem.>/

luckily I have improved my career path and the only marathon I did yesterday was to get dragged into watching two episodes of Jersey Shore'. I thnk I would perfer a full lobotomy rather then watch that sh^$% again. Those people are a trainwreck. and its no wonder everyone thinks americans are retards now.:tumbleweed:

No clue. It was kinda a shitty day. We couldn't get STARS to fly for us either.

That's crap. Don't you guys do Newton's Cradle? Meet another crew at the halfway point and trade off?

So come next weekend I think I will have alot of questions for this thread. I am starting my ski patrol course. I have to learn oxygen, immobilize patients, the "new" cpr procedure(it seems everytime I check its a new procedure) Have to learn what to do between the slopes and the ambulance.

Is the EMT course not a prerequisite to working patrol? they are letting you start from zero already employed? cause thats pretty cool.

down here you have to have experience or at least licensed already. at our mtn if you have just WFA and CPR you can work on 'Safety Team', which is kind of like a 'public safety aide' doing the gopher stuff (go for the O2, go for the backboard, Go dig out that trail name sign,etc...) some people dig it, less responsibility, and more skiing. full patrollers have to rotate sitting at the peak, waiting for rotation or a call, whatever happens first....
Also you should have a first aid room or clinic in between the slopes and the wahmbulance. it helps to warm em up a with fluids and blankets, and do all the invasive stuff- cutting of clothes, removing boots and gear etc...
congrats on making it on patrol!! its something I can see myself doing (part time) for a long time. long hours, cold toes, runny noses, and more cold toes. and some unforgettable powder daze.

actually.... when I am financially stable (read:never) I am gonna say screw it, buy a pass, and just go skiing!!!
    lol

Yup they said zero experiance required. having said that I have some rigourous classes coming up. And yes we do have a first aid room. I grew up with the ski patrol here, both my parents were ski patrol. I am so anxious to get started. As for the cold toes and runny noses, I was an instructor before this, I decided to cross over to the dark side!!

Very rarely. We only get meets if we request them, and even then it's only about a 30% chance we'll get one. If we tell them we wont do it, obviously we'll get one, but we'll get shit calls for the rest of the night.

My buddy is working tonight and just headed out on a 2.5 hour STAT transfer to a hospital with better cardiac care. He does 'em all the time out of that station...

    Alright guys,

I'm building a kit for my truck (and work, cause I'd like my equipment to actually work and not get beat up) and am going to use a Nanuk hard case (similar to a Pelican). We use them on car where I work. What's really pissing me off is that I can't find a lid organizer (for meds, syringes, airways etc) for cheaper than $99 from Conterra-Inc (http://www.conterra-inc.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=68)

The ones we use don't have a name on them so I'm having a hard time tracking them down. Does anyone have their own kit with a lid organizer, or know what lid organizer your ambulance company/service uses in their kits?

    FYI, here's the Nanuk case.

    http://www.hardcases.ca/products/nanuk-930/

Thanks guys, stay safe out there!

Yeah, but the nice thing about being that far from home is a 2 hour nap suddenly becomes "stuck in traffic." the person more awake after that nap starts driving, his partner gets another 1-2 hours of sleep in the back, then swap out. Or just call up dispatch and tell them you're putting yourself out of duty for 4 hours of sleep. if they don't like it, they're welcome to come get the rig.

You really think they're going to back you up when you wreck the rig and it comes out that you've had no sleep?

"No Your Honor, our company policy is they get 8 hours a night! they obviously didn't use their down time appropriately."

Its really not very big. its actually one of the smallest I have ever been on. my fastest time going down the race course there on snowboard was like 31 seconds. Its close to home though so I am living at my parents. It really was just a way to get in the Ski Patrol so that hopefully in years to come I can go to somewhere like Whistler Blackcomb and patrol.
