Another thing I'm considering.... one thing I can't stand though is how all the nurses around here are complete bitches. I don't know if I could work with them all the time. I kind of work with them as it is, but they cut us down constantly. Makes me want to choke em out with O2 tubing or hit em over the head with a tank...

if you are thinking of being a nurse i say go for it, but be ready to work. there isnt the downtime like when you are in EMS, no watching TV or hanging out at the gas station having coffee, ER nurses work hard, are all short staffed, rarely get breaks, and get shit on by other hospital staff. but you can get great schedules and usually get plenty of overtime, before i had a wife, house, and cherished my days off i did some OT, now i do not, my 1st year out of college (i was 21) i make 110k, now i work my 3 days a week and go home and make a little less, i like what i do and my days off.

and yes....a few nurses i work with are bitches, it happens and i dont let it bother me, Im there to work and help people , i started 6 years ago as an ER RN, i try to change the stigma, i treat everyone with respect, i did the EMT thing for a while, when im at woprk i get up, meet the ambulance crew at the bedside, help them get the patient onto the bed, and thank them. and i get a lot of respect and help in turn

See, that's what I would like. Here, we put our patient on the hospital bed, go and get them a warm blanket, bundle them up, make them comfortable, put them in a gown. We'll turn around expecting to see the receiving nurse behind us but she wont be there. Usually takes about 5 minutes of searching to find who we're handing off to. It's a joke. They're all power trippers and question everything we do, and ask why we didn't phone for a higher level of care en-route.

It is what it is I guess, just have to set it aside and deal with the patient. Afterall, that's who you're there for.

Dont worry.. I am going back in 2 1/2 years. My gf is in the Coast Guard so she got re-stationed and I figured I live on the East Coast for 2 years. I want to get into LACo because you can work anywhere in the county. That includes overtime shifts. If you are young and wanna put in the hours.. it is always available.

yeah plenty of nurses i work with are just like that, i am not. when you guys get to the ER your job is done. and you prob need to get going to do it again. i work as the charge nurse when i am on. we have a 32 bed ER, if im not completely involved with something serious, i meet every EMS crew in the room no matter whos room it is. the recieving nurse gets report from me! thats how it works the 3 days a week i am there, the other days... well i hear about it, lol

and oh yeah, im a guy. im 99% sure you see a difference in the guys that work in the ER's you bring pt's to, compared to the "bitches"

looks like I'm a little late gettin here. Dispatch crossed units and sent me the long way lol. I don't really have a worst call. They all blend together. The bloodier the better. EMS people are a little f-ed up in the head. The most bothersome to me was taking a pt to a hosp and watching the incompetent staff kill him while I had to stand and watch. Made me wonder for awhile if it was my fault since I took him to the hellhole. A friend of mine ran a call with a guy who had crammed a dildo in his ass and mouth while in shower. He crammed the dildo so far down his mouth it wouldn't come out with forceps. I hate when cops or your partner get a nutcase or drunk all fired up and aggitated and you gotta ride in the back with him. The call I'm mostly taking their word for it without checking is the vaginal discharge at the nursing home. oh ya and its not the nurses pt. she just started her shift 20 min ago.

Most nurses are such asses to medics its ridiculous. My old partner went to nursing school and they told him nurses are just jealous that we can do so much more than they can. There are only a few nurses I have respect for. I'm looking at nursing school just for the pay and I don't wanna be 70 and still on a unit.

That's awesome man, keep it up. I'm sure that rookie medics love to see that when they deliver a patient. I know I like to see it. When I did my practicum I did it in a different city, and the nursing staff there was amazing.

Here, there are some really good and friendly female nurses, don't get me wrong. There are only two male nurses, and they're awesome as well.

Stay safe out there, all! I'm off to bed in hopes of a quiet night :)

    neglect, mostly.
i noticed they straight up ignored you twice hahaha. (as a fireman who has lots of run ins with paramedics, start making jokes how theyre all gay. there's a heavy crop of fruits in that field, and they take offense to it when you bring it up. that'll get their attention )
