Not from a sunburn. More likely is you got a good sun burn which then made the skin dry and not stretch like normal. Which then makes moving a joint painful. Which is what you are feeling.

Aloe lotion will be your best friend. If you can handle it, solar cane for the heat. And then find a lotion that has a good amount of Aloe in it. That will help with the heat and the lotion will help with extremely dry skin

It seems lately I've got a new hobby, smashing the crap out of my fingers. I've got one old fingernail growing out a black nail and a new one on another nail. The fingernails are attached but just discolored.
My question is , I've been told to drill the nail. Is this done as soon as the smash,or only when nail looks like it may come off?
    Thanks.

the idea is to relieve the pressure caused by the blood building up under the nail. so you should do it sooner then later. I havent had to do it (and i am totally ok with that.. )but apparently one should heat up a sewing needle red hot, and carefully press it through the nail. allegedly it wont really hurt unless you go too deep...

This is true. When the blood builds up under the nail it hurts like Hell. The hot needle melts through the nail which has no nerve endings and goes into the hematoma which also has no nerves. The blood leaks out, the pressure is releived and it feels a whole lot better.

I have done it to myself and patients and every time it felt great. Keep in mind it only helps to releive the pain caused by pressure under the nail. If your thumb hurts because you whacked the joint with a hammer it won't work. If days have gone by and your thumb hurts because you damaged the.tissue not because of a hematoma, it won't work

I had a 68 year old woman ask me when she and the hubby could start having anal again after her colonoscopy. The best part was she wouldn't fart in front of me because it was embarrassing.

Can't make this Shit up if I tried

Starting Medic school in a week from monday, so I have a few questions.

First off what advice can you give me?
What supplies should I get? like should I just get notebooks, a binder or what do you think I may need?
The school usually has students in uniform, what should I wear first day since it will be a couple weeks for my uniform? polo and slacks?
when do I get to play with the lights and sirens?

No I am not a paramedic

Several years civilian EMT, then 10 years Army Medic

Uncle Sam put me through nursing school and now I'm an NP

It sure is nice to work in AC and heat, but I do miss the street, mud and dirt

I have much love for EMS, they enter situations that I would NEVER set foot in. I have heard from friends they would get innocent calls, someone looks sick/tired and needs assistance, then they arrive and the patient is a trainwreck.

One of the hardest jobs in my opinion, front line savings lives.

Nurse practitioner/physician assistants are cool jobs too, but business comes to them. Although I would imagine the money is much better too?

    Very true,

some of my best calls have been dispatched as non emergency calls.

One was a prisoner at the local county jail, the call was for headache (med clearance before booking).

And we got there and the patient was unresponsive with a Heart rate was 35...

Turned out he took some "roxies" (oxycodone/oxycontin)

Had to break out the Narcan.

I have had a couple of STEMI alerts that were originally non emergency calls for things like Nausea or general illness.
