EMS staff who teach/train/supervise students in the field, on the job.

Really we just get them to do all our work for us. (They have to learn somehow and fuck it, that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.)

Good. I couldn't be behind a desk or in an office. You'd be reading about me a week later regarding a bell tower and a box of ammunition.

It was a pretty fun call. Dude was DOI. Dead on Impact. He could have been wearing bomb squad gear and the speed he hit the tree's, there's no amount of cushioning in the world that would have saved his ass.

HA! Nice. Smart you upgraded. ;)

I bet she was sleeping real good. Did you know if you take a metric fuck ton of Quinine you'll confused the shit out of an entire medical staff in the boondocks?

So I'm reviving this thread because I was wondering if you guys knew anyone who was hearing impared and is a nurse/emt/paramedic/doctor. If so how do they cope with it such as how do they use their sethscopes, which is my main concern. I'm in lower division nursing right now; all we do is math, english, history, and basic sciences; then my 3rd year of school I will begain doing nothing but nursing related schooling. Any thing that you guys(and gals) can think of that would be directly affected by my hearing imparement, such as sethescopes in the ear?

You'll get along famously with old people. Both of you will be standing there shouting at each other going "WHAT? SPEAK INTO MY GOOD EAR! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"

Really, all I can think of is difficulty hearing through your stethoscope. If you can communicate fine with people in every day life, you'll be able to communicate with your patients. One thing that may be difficult to pick up would be audible wheezes or respiratory abnormalities from a distance.

Look into the Littmann Model 3100 or 3200 electronic steths. They're awesome. I tried one out at the hospital once and it was insane. The 3200 is cool because you can record sounds with it, which in my opinion would be helpful for those just starting to listen to chests. Or, if you have a patient with a murmer, regurgitation etc, you can record it and listen to it over and over so it's easier to pick up later on.

I don't know anyone personally but there are stethoscopes out there that amplify the sound. Everyone I know that works on the ambulances has hearing loss to an extent. Open windows and sirens make for early hearing loss. I'l ask what? all the time talking to certain people cause the tone of their voice makes me where I can't hear them well. Anyway try one of the electronic stethoscopes. Littman mans a nice one.

    http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/...scope/stethoscope-catalog/stethoscope-models/

Check them out. They work really good. You should be able to find them cheaper on ebay.

If your worried enough about it to post it on ask a medic then it's probably bad enough to go get it checked. :D Same I tell someone who calls an ambulance.
