Hi mr. plumber, how much can i expect to pay to have a new water heater installed? my water heater is in the attic, went to home depot and they quoted me over $300 just for labor. the heater it self only cost $360.00. is this something i can do my self or do you recommend hiring a plumber?

can you solder?
unless your new water heater is the exact dimensions of your old one, you're looking at flue work in addition to the gas and water pipes. do you have flex connections on the gas or water?

 

have never solder before.
i measured my old heater and the new one is the same dimensions so it should just be disconnecting everything and connecting them on the new one. i guess i would have to get the connections separetely, so i could get the flex ones.

 

Yes, you could, but in order to install flex connections on the water pipe (assuming it's copper) you would have to solder. Soldering is not hard but it does take some practice to get it right and not have any leaks.

 

Okay so I'm going to throw this out there and see what some of you guys think the best way to fix this. I recently started watering my lawn which is set up with an automatic system. I notced several days after I had watered that there was water coming out of the lowest side sprinkler head. I opened the lid to the valves and could here the system was on(slightly), I closed the main valve to prevent water from getting to the valves but the system still had water coming from the low side sprinkler, I shut the small valve on the (syphon/electric?) and that also slowed things but it continues to still be slightly leaking. What to do, it looks like I need to replace the main valve and possibly the zoned valves? Did this make sense?

 

I am looking for info. I am installing a Kohler shower valve and the directions dont have dimensions as to where to rough it in. I have mounted it so the white plastic piece is flush with studs. I am going to green board the wall and then install a Sterling corner shower unit

 

Is that knob and tube in that crawl space ? Curious George.

It's been awhile since installing a kohler shower valve. Just recently I installed a body spray/control valve by kohler,but it showed on black plastic center hub,outward past the white plastic was finished wall.
You should be good,but ya could install trim to make sure. Hope this helps.

Ok, house on slab foundation. Master bathroom with a 3 1/2 by 5 foot walk in shower. The shower is about 45 years old with a raised poured floor, center drain and then tiled over. The pipes are clay under the slab, they don't leak as far as we know but the shower does and it makes the room really damp feeling. We want to put a tub in but if we go with a center drain to match what is in the floor there would be a lot of wasted space in a 5' by 8' small bathroom. How can a fairly handy man put a normal tub in without cutting into the slab?
