I'd be floored to know a very small percentage of Canadians like Bryan Adams. Then impressed.

^^ Sure, since the advent of capitalism, yes, it's socialism lite. Not because of any recent events, though. But neither full socialism nor full capitalism can succeed.

I'm pretty sure it is; by the strict definition of socialism anyway. I guess you could say the US is ultra-light-socialist? We are definately not a Socialist Nation (thank goodness) but we do have socialist tendancies such as publicly owned airports, sports arenas, public schools and public universities. Besides, aren't most roads themselves publicly owned?? :p

^^ Yes, on both counts. Have a strong feeling this "socialism" thing is people trying to stir up debate about our President, but the end-all is that any civilized society takes pieces from other forms of governance... kinda like finding bits of each religion in all other ones. ...this isn't to start a debate on politics or religion...

Yes. And sewer systems, and water systems, and garbage systems, and armed forces, and electrical utilities, and law enforcement, and judicial systems, and disaster response agencies...and this is what we call "government." Ours just happens to be run buy corporations via lobbyists.

Here's some help. Think "subhuman whores," and then think about a parasite on the subhuman whore. Then you are starting to get close, and you will likely find a member of congress nearby.

OK, in the 80s, the Federal Highway Admin. mandated that all states use metric measurements or potentially forego some federal funding. Long story short, nobody could order things like 2x4s (which aren't even 2x4) for falsework without a complete fiasco (let alone actual construction materials...convert concrete, electrical, hardware, everything to metric, and then convert it all back to order stuff from vendors?).The states began refusing to comply. The official Caltrans design guides are finally back to English in California as of 2010.

So I doubt anyone will table this issue in the current economic climate.

I buy 2x4's in Canada, lumber isn't converted, and you bring up an interesting issue, everything else is metric, why not lumber

That's a holdover here for the residential building crowd , most government jobs are in metric ( cubic metres of concrete , etc )

It's an odd mix , we use feet and inches all day but the code is in metric , you can now write your journeyman exam in imperial again though .
