Cheap alcohol delivery system that when you drink it at near freezing temperatures has no taste.
The largest US-owned brewing company. They brew some good stuff in general. Their imperial series is bordering on great.
Go for Sam Adams over either of those. But since you're going to San Francisco, you need to try some of Anchor's stuff on draught. Their signature beer is their Steam, but their Porter is better, imo. Their Old Foghorn barleywine on draught is one of my favorite beers of all time.

Also check here and see if any of those addresses are near where you'll be...

OK, someone needs to step up here and help you out.

There is a stupifyingly large assortment of very good beer available in Cali. You can get any of them in SF. As someone else said, sample the Anchor Steam beers, which are unique to SF. Anything by North Coast Brewing Company (Fort Bragg, CA) is great. For some unusual heavy hitters, try Old Rasputin's Russian Imperial Stout (~8%) and also Brother Thelonious (as in Monk), their take on a Belgian, and it is damned good. Sierra Nevada started in Chico, CA, and they have an increasingly large selection of seasonal offerings in addition to the standard Pale Ale available everywhere.

In Golden Gate Park, check out the Academy of Science. I haven't been since they did a major renovation a couple years back, but check out their web site. It gets rave reviews. Someone else mentioned the Palace of Fine Arts; for the kids here, you've got to check out the Exploratorium, which has tons of cool, hands-on science stuff. Adjacent to that is Chrissy Field, a former Army air base that has been redeveloped into open space and coastal wetlands as a part of the Golder Gate National Recreation Area, great views all along the water to watch the world's ships come through the Golden Gate, along with windsurfers and sailboat races. Good place to fly a kite, but be sure to hold the kids down so they don't blow away to Japan.

North Beach: awesome large Italian neighborhood, just SE of Fisherman's Wharf (avoid the Wharf in general; way cheesy and touristy). Check out Cafe Trieste for great coffee, and Tommaso's for a great old Italian restaurant with a brick oven for pizza, and outstanding canneloni, etc.

China Town is a great experierence, too. It is like another world. Touristy, but fun for a short while. Largest Chinese poipulation outside China, and it is cheaper than flying to China.

It is worth walking on the GG Bridge, or even taking a quick bus ride to the opposite side to Vista Point or the Marin headlands for stunning views back to the City and most of the North Bay.

If the wifey needs to get some shopping on, Union Street and Chestnut Street, both near Lombard St. (on the north edge fo the City). Good bars and restaurants there, too.

Ride a cable car, and check out the cable car house and museum, too. it is still running the entire system.

Warning: summer is SF can be cool to cold! Lots of fog rolls in the gate. Pack some long pants and windbreakers/fleece in addition to shorts and T shirts.

Anchor Brewing, Sierra Nevada, Mendocino Brewing Co. Major 3 microbrews around Bay area. There are a lot more microbrews on tap here in cali. More good beer here than you can drink.

They're as American as Einstein. ;)
Like most North American Industrial Lagers, they're fairly bland and generic and marketed to be drank so cold as to be completely flavorless. Bud's acetaldehyde-laced yeast strain also gives me headaches.

    Literally lol.

Adolphus Busch, Frederick Miller, and Adolph Coors were all German immigrants who became American and attempted to replicate the style of beer from their home country using what was available here. Miller and Budweiser are two different shades of the same color.

    Awesome info...thanks !

I was wondering about Fisherman's Wharf being a tourist trap, good to know there's other great stuff to see.

I did splurge for Giants tickets, we're gonna be sitting really close to 1st base, can't wait as I've never been to a MLB game, and it's a nooner which is better than a night game for my 5yr old.

Thanks for the beer info too...was seriously worried I have a choice of Coors Light or Bud Light :D

not really! the ONLY thing i like about him is. that he supports hunting and hunting rights! thats it. and thats just because i hunt and under stand that hunting is good. as it helps with over population and disease in animals.
