Are you saying you're not AMERICAN? :notsure:

Full contact sparring does appear to possibly be a little more rough than hockey.

Ah... Well lots of blood isn't the problem, we get a lot of that already. :D But yes, I'll admit, we don't stick to the rules very well.

Why would you rather bankrupt your country and default on your debt than pay slightly higher taxes ?

I do believe this thread is about to be intelli-bombed with a discussion on a possible tax default by the U.S. Govt. (why thank you, OZ.)

Because they keep freakin doing it! The politcians have had many opportunities to CUT spending and lower our massive debt but they keep spending more. The debt ceiling is kinda like their max balance on a credit card (which they want raised). We'll just have to raise it again in the future after they spend even more! The excessive spending must stop. Common sense. Yes, it will be pretty bad if we default on the loan, but this is not the way to fix it; it just compounds the problem and gets us further into debt.

Funny thing is..... Our current president voted against raising the debt ceiling to 9tril back in 2006.... he said it was wrong. WTH?!?!

If I could get more political, I would explain more, but this will have to suffice.... I'm probably streching the boundries with this answer as it is.

Dems wanna cut spending / raise taxes

Republicans won't allow increased taxes , wanna merely increase the debt ceiling

Correct me if I am wrong

Honestly, I don't know exactly. That sounds about right though.... I know both parties want to cut spending, but are arguing on what exactly to apply the cuts to.

The republicans are the ones calling for spending cuts, on top of a raised debt ceiling.

The argument is raised taxes on the "rich" and small business will destroy the job market.

Dear god, what have I done.:rain:

It is, but that hurts the economy as well. At this point, I don't think it would help the situation. Increasing taxes hurts investment/spending in the private sector, and hurts the economy overall. The gov. would just spend it anyway.... The real problem that needs to be addressed is the excessive spending (imho) and I think there are other, more efficient/moral ways to go about this than raising taxes.
