Boot the PB and press & hold the 't' key as soon as you hear the startup sound. This will boot the PB into target disk mode. Now connect a firmware cable between your PB and MacBook and the PB will show up as an external drive. Copy what you want to your MacBook. This is the easiest way without having to remove the hard drove from the PB and put it in an external enclosure.

I have some TV series that a guy has downloaded for me. He is going to put it on an external hard drive that I will be providing. What format should he save it as. He said windows media player should open it, but I don't have that on my MacBook Pro.

I have an old non hd tv. But I do have a gimmick that converts signal from our ps3 and satellite dish to work with the tv. So will I be able to convert this content over with the right dongler dangler gimmick plugged into the correct port or am I screwed as usual when it comes to technology!!!! Hehehe

I'm confused...you want it to display like a clock or you just want an alarm to wake you up? If you want it to display, do what snobord said and find an alarm clock type app in the app store. Otherwise, just set an alarm in the stock clocks app and it will sound whether your phone is locked, unlocked, or on vibrate.

    new issue: Wife's Ipad

Wife has a first gen ipad and we recently updated it to the new iOS. Problem: It took all of our game data with it (including the individual game maps with it) she plays this Harbor Master game alot and bought new levels to play on but they disappeared. One of my games that I had been playing for over a year and got pretty far on started me out from scratch...

any idea how to get this stuff back?

    Facetime Question:

I am using Facetime on my iMac and I facetime with my sister in law in Hawaii using her iPhone4. Within 5 mins of our converstaion, she can't hear me at all. I checked the system preferences and the internal mic volume is at max but she still cant hear me. I have to restart my mac just so the sound comes back on and then it fades away again. Any idea what could be causing this? Or anybody else have this issue?

You made a backup, right? Restore your backup.
If you didn't backup, so much for your game saves.
As for Harbor Master levels, try to re-download from the app store or talk to the developer.

we did make a backup, didn't work with the game data...emailed the developer of her game and they told us how to restore the levels...as far as mine, I haven't heard from them yet.

Dunno if I can still ask for help here, but I just got a 4s and iTunes won't install on my PC. WinXP SP3.

I've narrowed it down to the Mobile Device service - it refuses to install properly/run... I've rebooted, uninstalled everything iTunes or even remotely Apple related, and I still can't figure it out.

Any help? eventvwr logs are scant, and I was able to run the MSI by hand and catch a log - it appears to be an issue with the USB driver for the iPhone. My PC keeps 'seeing' the phone as a digital camera too, which seems like a common issue.

I tried a few suggested fixes, but none worked. Thanks!!

1.) Try to use one of the rear ports.

2.) Did you have any previous versions of iTunes installed?

My computer would always see the "Digital Camera" part of my iPhone, but iTunes was still able to communicate with it.

Well, as it turns out I don't really need iTunes at all... but you're right. It is a horrible system.

Used many different ports. NEVER had iTunes installed before. I just said F it and jailbroke from my laptop @ home. The mobile device service is required for JB, and it was not playing nice with this lappy.

Certs seem hosed, and I don't really know what's wrong with my work lappy. Probably needs Windoze wiped, as I'm having some other certificate related issues.

I'm going to avoid iTunes like the plague.

I'm not here to start a war. I personally prefer Android because it's open source...

But with that said, the hacker/developer community is much tighter on iOS. I've talked to many, and they all agree - Apple is the common enemy with their community. With Android, Google is not the enemy but the enabler. All the other devs are the enemy, and a lot of people just kang... and don't work with eachother.

As much as it pains me, from my limited experience with iOS, their developer community is IMHO better.

Although again, I still do prefer the way Android does things. Much more choice out of the box... With Apple, the choice doesn't really begin until you jailbreak.

Requiring use of an application in order to receive updates, or even do something as simple as push music to a device is arcane, and stupid.

If you like it, use it! But what about people who hate the interface? Or don't like how slow it is? Or just flat-out, don't want to use it? There's not many choices for them.

Oh, and of course what about Linux users? No iTunes love for them.

Plus, see my above issues with installing iTunes. Again, it all goes back to having one application to do everything. If that one application fails, you have no choice but to try and use another computer. Not a solution to me.

I'd much rather just copy over music myself. I use Google to sync all my contacts... glad I don't have to use iTunes for that!! Cross-platform sync ftw.

In regard to iOS vs others, the developers have nothing to really do with it. There's equally brilliant minds in Microsoft and open source. The real difference is in product control.

    Microsoft suffers on two fronts.
First, their software has to support just about anything you plug in.
Second, they suffer because they have an edict that nothing, NOTHING must feel different or compromise Windows. About a year ago or so they came out with a revolutionary tablet, but it got flushed because it had a different operating system, didn't use Internet Explorer, and had no ties to Hotmail (it didn't have a browser and couldn't email at all - it wasn't designed for that purpose).

Unix is anarchy. When it comes together, some amazing things can happen. Ubuntu is starting to show that. Linux Mint is also another great OS.

Apple seems to be amazing simply because they have totalitarian rule over what gets plugged in, what gets run, and what the design is. I can plug an experimental video card from a company that went bankrupt in 1999 into my Windows box and it will still run. I never checked, but I'm guessing there's no such thing as even a generic driver in iOS, and I'll most likely void all warranties for plugging the device in.

iTunes has just become overly bloated.
Consider the iPhone came out in... 2005? it took six years for wireless sync, and you have to have full-on iTunes running, not just a tray app. Rockford Fosgate came out with a wirelessly-synced car stereo around 2004. Androids were able to wirelessly sync from the get-go, I think...
You can't install the device driver for the iPhone without iTunes, and most of the time it won't recognize. Support on the matter has been lax.
