200 is really pushing the threshold of the well-being of your CPU, I would think. Was it on your lap/pillow/blanket or something when this happened?

When I watch hd video on mine for a while it gets maybe 160 if I'm really pushing it. But if it's on my lap or something that doesn't dissipate the heat it gets much warmer. I try not to let that happen. No bueno for computero

By the way, my MacBook Pro does get pretty hot streaming netflix too...just not to the point you're describing. I think it has something to do with Microsoft's Silverlight and how much CPU "power" it eats up. Activity Monitor or Task Manager in Chrome will usually show the Silverlight Plug-In using at least 40% CPU, most of the time more.

I hope they don't give you crap, you already took a screenshot too. Maybe somehow at the factory the heatsink(s) weren't installed right? Or not enough thermal paste?

Yea.. I need to do that, too. You could probably feed a smaller third world country with all of the crumbs in mine.

Just take the bottom off and hit it with a can of air?

    two questions.

every time i plug in my headphones the volume automatically goes to max, this hurts my ears when i forget to pause playback before plugging in. how do i change this setting?

also in regards to audio, is there a way to play music with the screen fully closed?

    thanks

I don't have a MBP but I'll try to help ya.

On my iPhone, the volume seems to "remember" what it was last set to. So for my iPhone-specific headphones, they remember their setting, generic headphones have a setting, and the speakerphone has a setting. All I do is adjust the volume, and next time it goes back to that volume... Perhaps this isn't so simple on the MBP. On my laptop (PC) there's no intelligence here. Whatever volume is set to on the speakers is mirrored when you plug in the headphones...

The second one should work, assuming there's a setting to disable the sleep when lid is closed... Again, no MBP here so I don't know where the setting is or if it exists - but I'd hope it does, it's pretty basic. Look for power management options.

well unfortunately there is no memory, plug in headphones and i get max volume. the only way around it i've found is to pause or rapidly tap the volume down, even if i mute as soon as the connection is made it goes to max volume. as for the sleep settings i cant find them.

    thank you

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131?viewlocale=en_US <-- on the close lid thingy, quick goooogle.

Edit, holy shitballs. Apple requires that you have an external monitor and some input device plugged in for "closed lid mode" to work... that's awesome Apple.

Here, get InsomniaX. Free application, I heard you should steer clear of the hibernation mode.... (I was reading this thread for reference). Sucks you have to get 3rd party software to control something so basic over the system - but as always with things Apple, they make the decision of what's best. Sometimes that's great, other times it's maddening. C'est la vie.

Going to google on the other topic, may edit this post...

Edit2, here's a mostly useless thread on the volume topic... I'll try to find moar.
Edit3, This one seems to be on the money. Let us know how it works.

Unfortunately that was the answer I was expecting to get. No I don't want the revenue. I just want the medics on our department to have another avenue to access our protocols. Could really care less about making money as we are a small department, and I just thought that I would give this a try and see if guys liked it.

    Edit:
    Thanks for you help though.
