Omg...that would be outrageously epic  Like mind-blowningly nuts...such a simple concept too. Makes me think of automatic watches on top of the shake-up flashlight

    .
That would solve the problem on the battery . . . :D

I wonder if they could do that on a Hybrid car battery . . .

You're going to shake your hybrid?

I don't think so. I don't think it could supply nearly enough power to do much of anything for a car and still remain cost effective.

An iPhone 3GS uses about 2.2 kWh per year (kiloWatt hours). So assume that you could make a shaker that powers the device all the time just by carrying it around. That means 2.2 kWh per year in power input from each device. If you assume that your moving around about 8 hours out of the day, that means it probably provides about 250 mWh of power (milliwatts) per hour.

The Nissan Leaf uses about 21.25 kWh every 60 miles. If it takes about one hour to drive that far, then your charger would need to provide 21.25 kWh. Since this charger only provides about 250 mWh of power, that means you'll need about 85000 of them to power your car. If the technology only costs $1 to add to an iPhone, it's going to add $85K to the price of a Nissan Leaf. Even just shooting for a doubling of the Leaf's range (about 70 miles) would add significant cost to the car.

Not an unreasonable concept at all - no different than a Prius "recharging" using the kinetic energy from braking. Think of it like an automatic watch...stopping, starting, any lane change, swerve (axis/yaw shift) would be charging the battery. Obviously they're not going to put an iphone sized device in a car - so develop a larger one and see what happens I say.

I understand the concept and was just joking about shaking your car. I'm just saying for the power requirements of a car, it won't do much because of the cost of adding it will far outweigh the benefit you gain back. Many smaller ones would be preferable to one large one. The large one isn't going to move much. The small ones would move constantly and be easier to add to the car (e.g. inside plastic body parts, door panels, fender wells, etc).

I could see using it to power some of the devices on the car rather than pulling from the car's battery (e.g. radios, displays and some lights, etc).

Regenerative breaking doesn't really add much to the cost of the car because it's already using electric motors to drive the car. They just use the same motor to add power back into the battery when decelerating. These shake charge units will add further to the cost of a car that's already expensive.

"Down loaded "Mountain Lion O/S" (from Snow Leopard) a couple of days ago and it is driving me crazy ...

The slider bar on the right side of the page goes in hidden mode when you take the pointer off of it and it gives you a full page.

The problem is when I go to find the slider bar again (to move page up and down) and I put the pointer on it ... it tends to highlight part of the page on the left ...

It is almost impossible to just find the slider bar ... without highlighting part of the page (on the left) ... maybe I have a setting wrong or something ...

Help .. this is making me nuts ... ......... Thanks ... :D

If i read you correctly you're wondering about scrolling....

On a Portable machine (MacBook Pro, Air, etc) on the track-pad take two fingers and slide them up from the bottom of the track pad to make the page go down and vice-versa to go up. And when you do that it makes the page scroll bar appear.

Oh man ... thanks a lot ... just learned something new. ... :D

All my life I have been taking the pointer over to the right and scrolling up and down by holding down the pad with left hand and taking right hand finger over to the pointer to scroll. ... :anonymous: ... (like old PCs)

Kudos to you for making my life easier ... thanks ... :D

PS ... I need to take an Apple class.
