    Does Plasti-Dip count as a mod ?
I've been in the IT field for many years now. I've been cross platform for almost as long.
15 years I've been doing this sort of work.

Macs are great. I have 3.
PCs are great. I've had many over the years.

For general use, doesn't matter what platform you use.
For specific / intensive tasks.... pick the right tool.

Cost value goes to PCs. No doubt about it. Except for long term ROI.
Ease of use still goes to Mac. IMO.
There's so much info out there it's hard to get a handle on.

Use what you like. Don't bother getting into a pissing match about who's computer is better. There are lots more important things in life.

we are a pharmaceutical development and mfg company, our previous operations business guy was so anti Microsoft that he created the company using Macs. and 8 years later we are still stuck with inferior computers for users who just need excel and word. its been a struggle everyday.

No, Macs are not just designed for the media world. They can do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING.

Yes, Macs cost more, but have you ever put them side by side and noticed the difference engineering?

Show me a laptop that can be opened with one finger. Find a WinPC with a mag safe power port. Find a laptop with the advanced track pad. You can't. You pay for innovation thats years ahead... and it works out of the box!

I am about to get an ipad and was wondering if it is possible to download books as torrents and sync them to the ipad to use with the ibooks app instead of buying them through itunes?

Also is it possible to do the same with applications?

    Thanks

Thanks. Does anyone know if it can be done without jailbreaking? I've had bad experiences with jailbreaking in the past (my old iphone 3G performed terribly when it was jailbroken).

Has anyone tried jailbreaking the iphone 4? What are your experiences?

It can't be done without a jailbreak, but today jailbreaking is quite easy. Just do it, man.

Okay I have a question. I have a iPhone 3g Jailbroken. lately it hasn't been showing text messages until like 30 mins later. Also when I plug it up sometimes it doesn't want to charge. It shows the little fork looking thing instead of the lightning bolt.

I would say connect to iTunes, restore it back to it's original factory operating system, and then re-jailbreak it. There's not really anything else you'd be able to do, unfortunately.

I had my first real serious face time with OSX this past week, at a workshop for physics teachers, and I was fairly happy with it. A little getting used to--but I appreciated the responsiveness and functionality. I'm still a PC/Linux guy, but...I will more seriously consider a Mac next time I'm in the market for a computer (especially if it can run a VM with WinXP or Win7 for compatibility with old programs).

What I am really fairly well sold on is an iPad. A guy at the conference had one with 3G; first one I've seen extensively in operation, and it was way more interesting than I had thought it would be.

I JUST learned how to multiquote. YES!

I'm sorry buddy, I've never heard of that before. I don't know what to say.

There's been a lot of issues with this lately, but they have been officially signed last week and it will be early 2011. There might be a date by now, I'm not sure, but I think people are speculating January.

You have outgrown your software and hardware, it's time for something else.
You need to look into an outside consulting company to help you deploy and implement an ERP software solution that will match your needs.

Depending on size and needs, there's many solutions: Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Great Plains, SAP, Sage, etc.

You can find more information by attending different conferences (I think MSoft NAV just had Convergence conference), or contact the ERP software provider and ask them to match you with a consulting firm that can give you a demo.

Huron Consulting Group might also be another good resource.

Althought SAP is sometimes a heavy handed solution (from what I hear), it might be a good option since it has cross-platform capability. You can use your existing hardware while paying for startup costs, then have the option to transition to PCs, faster Macs, etc.

4.0 Sucked on a 3GS? I've never heard that complaint before... Are you sure it's not a 3G? All the complaints about speed issues with 4.0 were regarding the 3G only, and apparently most issues are being fixed for 4.2. But I don't know if there's a way to go back... Just upgrade your hardware, man. You can't expect to run new software all the time on outdated hardware. You're setting yourself up for disappointment. That's not Apple's fault.

    And I don't know a thing about PS3's, I'm sorry!
