Get an Apple TV. You can mirror your desktop or stream movies from iTunes wirelessly.

With the macbook air, that will work. But it wont work for his 2009 Macbook, you need a 2011 or later Mac to do Airplay Mirroring.

Get a mini display port to hdmi. boom

Roku doesnt do what apple tv does as far as apple products go. I love my apple TV. I, like most people, use it every day.
Still wont work. you need a 2011 hardware or newer.

As much as I dislike Apple products, the Apple TV is fantastic for my users at work who want to do presentations right off their iPads and I use it at home to watch Netflix on an older flat screen TV that does not have bult in apps....

    Defintely worth the $99 price....

Man, God forbid someone that hates Apple products says something nice about their stuff without stating how much they don like our products first.

so I sprung on an apple tv. we shall see how it works. It will share with my itunes at least which is cool. wife's MB air should be able to mirror (she has it at school, haven't tried it yet). However, I stumbled across a trial (not paying the $10 for it yet lol) for a program called Air Parrot. It supposedly does the mirror thing for the older MB's. Bout to set that up now and see if it works or not.

Grow up and get over your pointless hatred of an inanimate object.
Nice! let me know how that Air Parrot works. I would like to stream from my 27" iMac.

well, for picture it seems to work well...trying to figure out the audio for airparrot still. it says to install a driver, which I did, but it still isn't working and is prompting to install it again. will have to play with it later I guess.

I'm about to pull the trigger on some Apple products that I hope to be able to fit into the truck to replace most of our aging and "less than amazing" CarPC that I built a few years ago. I'll keep the FreeNAS arrangement as that is where I keep a copy of our music, movie and digital map collection.

I'm looking at a Mac mini with following specs:

    2.3GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x8GB
    256GB Solid State Drive

As well as an Apple TV and an AirPort Extreme Base Station. We both already have iPhones and will be adding a second iPad to our collection as well. Other than MP3car.com and Macvroom do any of you know of any other source for information about creating a reliable arrangement to work for these? I feel that I have most of the arrangement sorted but I still would like to bounce a couple questions and ideas off of others who have experience with a similar arrangement.

Just curious, what do you use it for in the truck that you couldn't do with say an iPad Mini operating as your head unit instead? Seems like that would be cheaper/easier. :notsure:

It most certainly would be cheaper, but I already have a screen in the dash and 8TB of storage in the truck and I like to tinker with stuff.

My cousin has a G4 iBook running Tiger. The screen is not centered and moves as you move the mouse around. Like the display settings are off and the screen size is bigger than the actual screen. I have seen this on a PC, but not familiar with a MAC. Assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Scott
