Thanks. I wound up calling tech support. I was hesitant since I thought they'd charge for it but they didn't, I guess because I haven't had the ad very long? Anyway I knew what the problem was (phone number wasn't showing under iMessage) just couldn't figure out how to fix it. All I had to do was disable iMessage on the iPad then the phone then enable both and it repopulated the number for me. I think it somehow got deleted when I updated the software.

I'll probably be in the market for a new MBP come the summer time.

I'm looking to upgrade to the 15" Retina with 16gb of ram and 512gb drive. I'll be mostly doing photo and video editing with the occasional podcast.

It is worth it to get 16gb of ram over 8gb?

For the money, absolutely. I have a 2012 rMBP and went with 16. It helps a lot if you want to run a Windows machine using either Parallels or VMWare.

Also for a slick deal go through Apple Edu. You don't need to actually go to the school. Just pick a local school from the list and you'll save a few hundred. You don't even need a .edu email.

I know all about the edu discount

I'll be running Ps6, LR4 (might upgrade to 5), and I'm looking into Final Cut Pro

Then you'll want 16. You cannot upgrade later so if you may want it, get it. Same with the hard drive.

I've got a Drobo that has expandable storage space, so I'm not really worried about storage space. I usually dump all of my files to my external storage once I'm done editing

I've got a new laptop and I want to sync my iPhone 4s to it, but when I try to do this, it says it wants to erase and synch, meaning all of my music and everything will erased. Is there a way to sync it and keep everything? I don't need the older laptop anymore, so I'll technically still be only synched to one iTunes library.

    Thoughts?

They won't let you sync to more than one computer. Since you still have the old laptop your best bet is to sync it to the old one, copy everything over to the new one, and then sync to the new computer. Make sure everything is there before getting rid of the old computer.

How hard is it to replace the screen on the Iphone 5?

I know of a few kits online that run 60-80 bucks for the screen and all the tools required. I'm assuming these kits have the necessary home button and camera already on the digitizer.

Great suggestions. My issue is that I'm a truck driver and want to watch stuff from my phone on my television I have in the truck. The chrome thing looked like the best option until I found it requires wifi.

That's why I suggested the video dongle. No wifi required.

Without WIFI, direct connection seems to be your only option then. If you have the iPhone 5 or later, kirkofwimbo's link should work (assuming your truck's tv has an hdmi connection). You'll also need an HDMI cable as well.

iOS 8 will bring peer-to-peer airplay, still unclear if that requires a network connection but it sounds like it uses bluetooth discovery to create a wifi direct connection between the device and Apple TV, so no network access necessary for either device. If you have an iPhone this could work for you if you want a wireless connection. Probably be a few months before iOS8 is available though.

Looks like it doesn't require a network. http://www.engadget.com/2014/06/03/peer-to-peer-airplay/
