The 5s works great with IOS 8 and is Yosemite, no need to spend money on a phone and case for said phone.
The 5s will run the next IOS, and it will slow it down some, and the one after that will really slow it down.

Maybe it's time to clean it up. You sure you don't have another update downloaded but not installed yet again? I know iOS 8.2 or whatever is out.
Or clean up your pics/songs/apps that you realize you don't use. I have some apps that I don't care for anymore and keep meaning to delete.

I hate that it down loads the update and it actually takes up space to have it sitting there at idle.

It says i need 4.6gb, or something like that, to be able install the newest iOS8

I'm down to essential apps, and have started cleaning out pictures and songs. :( over 4 gb of songs and over 4gb of photos

I was a bit annoyed to see I needed over 5GB free to install iOS 8 on my iPhone 5. Might have bought a bigger capacity iPhone 6 if I knew that. Needing almost half of the base model's free space to install an OS update is pretty ridiculous. If you have space issues for installing an update you can install it through iTunes instead, it won't require nearly as much space since it doesn't have to download and unpack the package. I think it ended up using about 1GB of space to install iOS 8.

The thing with the new iOS' is that they're designed to be much more efficient in order to increase battery life and improve overall performance. So upgrading your older phone will become less and less of an issue. The new iOS' are also designed to use less RAM so the increase in RAM, that we're NOT* seeing in the new iPhones, is also of less concern. Add in iCloud storage and non-RAM memory becomes less important.

*I'm not saying there was no increase, but very minimal. It was one of the 'complaints' of the new iPhones. Although it doesn't seem to be a problem and is generally the future of computing.

They do that because they want you to upgrade. Also, each update is built onto the other software, so my 16bg phone only has 12gb of space to start with because 4gb is stock software, they need to seriously FIX THAT SHIT.

If the software takes up that much space, do NOT advertise it as a 16gb. Advertise it as a 12gb.

I know it's still annoying, but they give you 5 gigs of free cloud storage. Could put your stuff there and then get it back once the update is complete.

I only put my contacts and such in there.

I also don't like that we have a contacts app and the ability to manage contacts within the phone app. The contacts app should be eliminated all together. I never use it. I just manage my contacts through the phone app.
