I have 2012 Tacoma that I want to turbo my Tacoma with a goal of 400hp, wondering if anyone could help me with the build. the big things are about the transmission because I don't think the stock auto 5 speed would work in this case, building a turbo manifold with the fabrication of it I have a flex core wielder that I got from harbor freight and I have to worry about the secondary air injection system on the header block. I like to know more on the fuel delivery and tuning opinions that is available.

All turbo builds are a-la-carte. There is no easy way to get one. The few that have them had someone build it, or they built it themselves.

That being stated, give us some details of your plans.

The flux core welder can get it done. It'll be a good learning curve for you. Do some practice pieces to get acclimated before getting into the real business. That way you can get your wire speed and voltage properly set for the gauge material.

If you turbo your engine doesn’t that mean you have to change your oil and plugs more often? To prevent any unintended wear and tear of course.

It will handle it. A valve body upgrade is a recommended upgrade though.

No different that having a supercharger.

I wouldn’t go longer than 5k oil changes and change plugs every 50k. You’ll be dumping more fuel into the combustion palace so the oil will be getting dirty quicker, as with any forced induction engine. Also given that the 4.0 is not designed from factory to attain certain driving conditions with extra power like that. It would and will last longer than what is considered reliable if you throw maintenance items at it.. you may want to start looking at bottom end components..
I’ve never driven a turbo V6 engine before. Only the ford 2.3 eco boost. I could imagine the turbo on the 4.0 being a great addition, given that it’s used for the right application. With a smaller turbo that would add more low end power/torque. Larger turbo would allow for more higher end power gains. Be careful when choosing the parts of course.

If I were building one from scratch, I would lower the compression with new pistons, get some I beam rods, upgrade the wrist pins, and send it. There's a twin turbo 2GR-FSE making almost 800WHP. The first thing he broke was a wrist pin.

    You shouldn’t push the A750 passed 400 ft/lbs Torque.
They tend to give up completely at around 450 Torque.

I believed there was a previous member that went through 2 transmission and was looking for a “upgrade”. He never came back an updated us on what he did,.

Mount it in your bed and curve your exhaust up through the bottom. Put it in place of your muffler. The cold air side will have so much surface area that you could, in theory, get by without an intercooler.
I've been wanting to do this too but probably never will.
I'll live vicariously through you for now!

    Gearcruncher may know the limits.
But it wasn’t him that built the truck that killed the transmission.

I believe the same guy was inquiring on using a an A760 too.

I’ll see if I can find the post.

Curious what this guy did or did not upgrade?

I know one that was making around 450 whp which means around 500 wtq, and all that his had was a valve body upgrade. I don't remember him ever complaining.

I don’t know. If I remember correctly, he basically came on here looking for help after the fact.
Which is actually uncommon, most guys ask about turbo, but never follow through.
This guy did it, then asked questions……
