    Hi guys,
Looking for some advice. After doing a fair amount of research and getting some offers from a few dealers, I decided on one dealer and I’ve been in touch for the last month and a half now, about a 2020 Off-road. They supposedly had one coming that week the first week of August so I gave them a small down payment to hold the truck for me and I sold my previous car privately (Ford Escape) thinking the truck would be in soon. It is now one month later and the truck is still not in, I have been renting a car when needed. But the dealer has offered very little help or information. I really don’t want to start from square one since I am getting the Tacoma I wanted. I never would have sold my car if they hadn’t told me the truck would be there that week but now I’m getting screwed. Any positive advice from anyone? Thanks

Sorry for the situation that you're in. I understand that the schedule from the factory to the port is firm, while the schedule from the port to the dealership is often "flexible."

Is it possible to get your hold money back and go to a different dealership? That might "motivate"your dealership to "suddenly" find that your truck was there all along.

It will be worth the wait
Maybe look for a different dealership though.

I'd try a large city big volume dealer if you really are in a hurry to get the truck. Similar happened to me when looking for a specific model truck and color. I found our local dealers not too keen having to order a tacoma so i contacted a large dealer in boston. Wasn't more than 2 months i had what i wanted, just like what the dealer told me after confirming the order.... plus i had just sold my tundra a week before so it worked out well. With this covid-19 bs its likely not the same anymore.

Tell them you are tired of waiting and are coming in for your deposit back. I bet that will get some action and if not move on to another dealership.

Ask for deposit back, or a loaner and you'll leave your deposit. It doesn't hurt to ask, loaners are the easiest way to get your vehicle on the priority list in the service department, maybe the same will work for sales?

Similar thing happened to me. I ended up pulling the deposit back then buying a used 19 with 8K miles on it from a different dealer(for 9k less then new)

Everything outdoors-related, from bike racks, to tires, to kayaks, to hiking boots is back-ordered right now. People can’t travel, so they are exploring their own back yard. Be patient and be glad you are in line for a great truck.

Im trying to replace my K02s right now with new K02s and was told mid-October. Phoned around. Nobody has anything.

The only action he is going to get is his check back with a smile and a big Thank You! Have you seen the Tacoma inventory lately!? there isn't any. These things sell off before they hit the ground. The dealer who I bought mine from usually has 40+ Tacomas on the lot and as many on order. Their inventory as of today is 6, and 3 of them are manual or basic trim. This should give you a slight idea how "scared" they'll get when he'll ask for his check back. It's all about supply and demand and there is still a very little supply.

I searched up and down California for 2 months trying to find a dealer that had what I was looking. Once I found a OR in cement that magically wasn’t already reserved, it took 5 weeks of waiting for it to finally land at the dealer.

Supply is very low on new Toyota trucks. Good luck finding something at a good price.

I am in the same boat waiting on the wifes 2020 4Runner. We decided to use our local dealer and they have a off road premium scheduled to come in Aug 27-31. Its still not in. Now I realize the 4Runners are assembled in Japan I believe, so I understand the delay. We are trading her Highlander in on it so not as dire as your situation. But I think the high volume dealerships are probably toyotas first priority then it trickles down to other dealers.. So if your local dealer isnt huge volume it could be awhile before yours comes in..

Hold off until 2021. You’ve gone this far. What’s another month or so.

Located in Wisconsin. The issue is that I sold my current car and I need a car by the 11th to drive to CO for an elk hunting trip.
I understand there is a shortage of Tacoma’s but dealer told me this tacoma(cement, double cab, OR) would be arriving early August and that I should sell car and prepare to buy the truck. Now they tell me that they don’t know what happened to this truck, how does a truck just disappear? Hoping the dealer can get me a loaner or at least take some of the financial burden of renting a car since they screwed me.

I had this happen. They said the truck would be ready on a certain day, so I sold my truck and got a ride to the dealer only to find it wasn’t there. I was pretty pissed and knew another dealer had one, so rather than blow the sale, they let me take home a new Tacoma as a loaner for the night while my truck was brought in from 200 miles away. A few calls to other dealers couldn’t hurt anything, even if it’s a few hundred miles away, you can get a ride out and drive your truck home. Good luck!

The inventory manager at another dealership got into the inventory system and redirected the truck at the port. Tale as old as time.
