The limit is full auto, and AR's and AK's are not for home defense, but defending our second amendment.

About the only truths in this thread. I liked the post about the ban going into effect after the first of the year. Uh, legislation hasn't even been introduced, hell, Congress isn't even in session. The legislators couldn't blow there noses by then, must less introduce, argue, vote and pass to senate, then to the Prez for signing in that length of time, geez.

So the NRA is rejecting any Ban whatsoever and advocating cops in schools.

After thinking about it, I retract my position on this last week. I thought it would be too costly, but where I grew up all the cops ever do is sit around and bust ppl for speeding and traffic bs. I dont see why you can't post one up in school. Aparantly some Marines tried to do this as well and are now facing fines and dishonorable discharges. WTF?

I see this argument in congress being long and drawn out.

    Agreed.

If people really want to get serious about the safety of our children, we can find the money. I have no idea how much it would cost but I can't imagine it being more than a Billion/year. The money is there, it's just a matter of deciding what is more important to us.

As a Marine veteran, I don't think there's anyone better trained to protect our schools. But we can't let just anyone stand out in front of a school. And to be totally honest, a guy standing in uniform isn't going to do any good. It's more symbolic than anything. What Marines are getting discharged for this? I find that hard to believe.

I don't think schools need armed guards. Honestly, I think that's a horrible idea.

A weapon is a weapon, i could do just as much damage with a pistol or a .22 rifle as a mentaly challenged person can with an AR. As long as there is people on this earth thigs like the CT shooting will happen. Drugs are illegal but people still do them. People are killed every dAy in alcohol related accidents to. Where does the line get drawn with that. I dont use my AR for home defense but if the government says they will take them from me i will. The ban is allready in place, clinton put it there it just expired, all they have to do is reinstate it.

^^THIS. thats the limit. all tho with the right permits you can have a full auto. i don’t have an AR. but if i did and someone tried to brake in my house with and AR or AK, i would like a gun thats evenly match not a hand gun or shot gun. same reason you would not take a knife to a gun fight.

I just don't understand How the ct shootings (tragic as it is) connect with an "assault weapons" ban...he left the ar in the car didn't he?

And these weren't even his firearms, they were his mothers...of which he killed to get
Should we be banning pistols instead?

Yeah people are over reacting. CT had some of the hardest gun laws in the country. And as we see it didn't stop shit.

I agree. Not only does it create a horrible environment for our youth, but it will turn in to the TSA, or worse. It would start out as government employees, trained fairly well, then privatized to $8.00 an hour dirtbags that fall asleep on watch.

Lol I always carry places I'm not suppose to. I'd much rather explain to a judge why I was carrying in a no carry zone then goto a family members funeral. These gun bans are a waste of Congress's time.

This is where I think the argument falls apart. The 'evenly matched gun' bit is crap. If I'm a better shot than you, I'll do more damage quicker with a .22lr pistol than you will with an AR. If you break into my house and I get the first shot off with my shotgun, it doesn't matter what you're carrying. I'm sorry but an AR is not a requirement for protection. The 2nd Ammendment argument is fine but you won't win many people over with a protection argument.

My AR is pretty low on my weapon choice should there be a home invasion at my place. .40>12 gauge>AR-15
