glad i dont park next to people with this knowledge.

 

Just something I used to do for living.

my girl is disabled and i see the trouble parking is at times. being cussed at, even damage to my yota when i take her out with placard. hey folks just because my yota has a lift doesnt mean im not moving people with disabilities.

 

Can relate..my friend in college drove a vehicle with a handicapped license plate. It was his aunt's vehicle (no ramp or other assists) and she wasn't able to drive anymore. He would only use the spot when he was out with her or picking her up and still got a lot of guff for it, which sucks.

 

Not really asshole, just flexing with one wheel on the curb.

It’s not like even the spaces are too shallow like here in CA where even my AC sticks out.

I heard all the stories growing up as my mother was a trauma nurse at a level 1 hospital. I drive my with head on a swivel and never take for granted that someone sees me or the other cars around them.

 

I flipped off the last old man that gave me shit for parking my sports car with my placard, in a spot.

The time before that, I just screamed "what, disabled people can't drive sports cars???"

I am so done taking shit for this.
I have a 128i and a Tacoma. No one seems to mind the placard in the Tacoma but when I drive the sports car, omg someone has to say something or give me a dirty look.

My dad was almost killed in a car accident (1 month ICU) and I have 4 screws and 2 plates in my spine from a different accident.
I drive extremely defensively - head on a swivel 100%

 

Far as I have always seen, if you have a plate or placard it's your spot. I don't care. Period.

My friend would have been legally 100% in the right to use the spot with his aunt's car any time but he ethically chose not to in her absence.

My brother in law doesn't "look" disabled either but has 2 knee replacements and long walks can be an issue for him. That said he also chooses not to use it unless he feels he has to, IE if we go to a concert and there's a lot of walking/standing all day long.

 

Not true in my experience. HC placard or a license plate is issued to a particular person. We have 3 vehicles in the family, so my wife chose a hang tag, which she can move from car to car, even though she primarily drives her Rav4. If I use the HC hang tag without her riding in the car, it will be revoked.
In one of my past jobs we actually ticketed people for using relative's vehicles with HC plates ($200 fine 15 years ago) and booted/towed a few repeated offenders. Created quite a mess for car owners, but their grand kids/nephews/nieces were abusing their driving privileges.

Yep, there are good days and bad days. Many times I have to let my wife out by the door and go park wherever I can find a spot, so she does not have to walk far.

PS My stepdad was a C3 Tetraplegic, so I tended to zero in on HC issues even before my wife had her issues that led to the HC hang tag for her.

 

At least she didn't park IN the handicapped space.

 

I’ve been yelled at for running to my car with an HC hang tag to pick up my handicapped wife or MIL from the front of the store/mall.

 

I think he means as far as getting upset with people using it. As in, you don't know what disabilities someone might have so you don't question it or call someone out who is using it. Don't think he's trying to endorse people abusing it when it was issued to someone else lol.
