50 years ago, parallel parking was one of the requirements to get my license. Do they still do that?

Yes, but unless you live in an urban area I've noticed that most cities are switching over to the "angular" parking, often ass-in.

with as many people as I see having problems just trying to park/back-up in "normal" spots this might be a good thing

I think the automakers have a share of the blame in creating these stupid drivers. Instead of building vehicles that reinforce the correct way to drive, they design the newer cars around our stupid population.

-It all started with the "idiot light" for fuel, because the needle in your fuel gauge wasn't enough
-Then we moved to tire pressure sensors, because God forbid you actually, occasionally check out your vehicle to see what king of shape it's in.
    - today, it's gotten absurd.... Blind spot sensors, automatic braking to avoid a rear end collision???? If our dumbed down population would pull their head out of their asses and put their phones down we wouldn't need this nonsense. I've lost track of how many times some fuckstick in a cage has changed lanes into my lane without so much as even turning their head to see if it's clear.

If I ever get diagnosed with a terminal illness I think I'd seriously consider going "Mad Max" and just start thinning the stupid in the herd.

Especially love that one commercial where the car auto brakes because the lady behind the wheel almost ran over a pedestrian in the crosswalk. HELLO! Does this excuse you from having to actually look out your windshield?

Yup...the message we are sending is "don't worry about paying attention to the road and what's going on around you, your new car will do it for you" SMDH

At the rate the general populations stupidity seems to be multiplying maybe its not a bad idea if all cars become "self driving"

I used this example when I was teaching criminal justice (in Florida)

People from MI RI NY PA etc retire and move south at 55. They get tested and get a DL.

Seven years later, they get a renewal in the mail go another seven years. 62.

    Repeat. 69.
    Repeat. 76.

You get the idea. Barring no major incidents, you just pay by mail (or however old people pay).

    The system is flawed.

Agreed. I'd happily pay more for a good mass transit system so that we could remove drivers from the road who aren't up to par. Sadly, we'll never see either happen

When I got my license (2006 I think) I didn't have to parallel park, just back up 30 feet next to a curb without touching the curb.

I got mine in 08 in PA, parallel parking was part of the test. Most people learned it for the test and then promptly forgot it.

    Over the internet, whippersnapper! Lol

And btw, the last time I tested was in 1969. Motorcycle add in 1987. Since then, just renewals.

They have that one commercial where the girl drifts into the next lane where a motorcycle was in. She said mom I got it. I would of snapped if that was me on the bike

Oh, I had to stop wearing my "company clothes" on my motorcycle because I can't get from my house to work without flipping off at least one person for almost killing because their head is up their ass

I think this also one of the reasons I don't carry. Too many dead bodies would be around my bike, the police would frown upon that :(

LMAO. My biggest issue is that everyone is to busy texting while driving and doing so they can't use the blinkers two thing that pisses me off. I drive 12hr a day for work. It was worse when I drove tractor trailers. I'm glad I don't do that anymore

I remember my Grandmother got a Florida license renewed for 7 years with an eye test at 85. She voluntarily gave driving up at 89, she lived to be 94.

Oh no. My FIL (in his 80s) refuses to put his CC number into any website. He view the product, get the info, write down the item number etc, then call the company and tell them his CC number over the phone...
