I just wanted to let everyone know that I got an Parrot Asteroid Smart installed in my 2013 taco. I did the install myself which was pretty easy but with it's own set of issues. It's an android based head unit so you can customize as you wish.

First, the removal and installation of the stereo itself was very simple, however because this stereo is so custom the wiring harness out there doesn't quite match so had to do some splicing and dicing, luckily i didn't have to cut any wires off the OEM wiring, just from the plug off the HU. Since I was already pretty familiar with stereo wiring and the head unit has imprinted exactly what each wire is, it made it a lot easier.

One of the main functions that i know some people cannot live without are steering wheel controls. I personally have never used them very much and as of right now I have not installed the adapter to get them working again. This will be my next venture. but not a priority for me.

Disclaimer: This head unit is for techy people that don't mind spending hours\days tweaking and customizing the interface for your liking. Out of the box the Head unit is just OK and gets the job done, but the fun comes in when you root it and install additional apps.

    Next steps:
Buy cable to add OEM USB port functionality, didn't realize there was an adapter until after the fact so I just ran a separate cable.
Buy steering wheel control module and the install is not going to be easy but i love a challenge.
Buy OBDII to USB port adapter to connect to PAS over USB for more real time meters and gauges displayed on head unit. I have this working but with a wifi ODBII module just prefer USB.

If anyone is thinking in getting one and have any questions, ask away.

Yeah, it's a very techy unit and does not require rooting but expands it's capabilities once rooted.
