While driving in safe place pull the parking brake on "slowly" and see if it shakes. That will eliminate the rear brakes if it dosent.

No, the LSPV was the last thing we tried without any change. It was very rusted away and I doubt it was working. I could try ordering a cheap one and throwing it on I guess.

    **UPDATE**
The problem has been resolved and I wanted to provide update and thanks to all for the helpful information. As I said I tried two different brand sets of drums and shoes which were cheaper (but not cheapest). I spent the money and bought Toyota drums and shoes and now the problem is fixed. It just may be that you cannot rely on aftermarket drums for these trucks, I don't know. I'm just glad it's resolved.

Awesome. Glad you got it figured out.

And thanks for reporting back. It helps with the information/database TW has become.

Can you by chance update your first post to include “resolved, it was the drums” or “resolved: see post #24”

It’ll for sure help someone in the future when they’ve come across your post in a search.

    Thanks for the update!!

I have heard of drum problems before on our Trucks.

It might be some warehouses store the drums in the wrong position.

Drums need to be stored flat in the Horizontal position was told this long ago by the different brake reps.

You ought to see this video:

I cannot imagine why you took off the tsp and lost it's function, especially if you haul a trailer.
He talks about what will happen to braking when the tsp is not functioning. Maybe you can buy a used tsp online - https://www.amazon.com/Sensing-Proportioning-Toyota-Tacoma-1995-2004/dp/B07M5SKN5W
Buy a roll of nickel brake line and good flaring kit.

Some of us learned to drive before these LSPV`s were every thought of.

in all my years I have never had a Toyota 4x4 that the LSPV ever worked when the truck came to me.

Most often the first attempt to bleed brakes broke things.

    Living in the Northeast USA.

My trucks are used as trucks loaded heavy and towing.

A simple job to adjust rear brakes for me with the manual valve at the master cylinder.

If I wanted to be real fancy I could mount it in the cab like the old style brake controls .

Last week I drove a Chevy that had a severely warped drum. As soon as you touched the brake the rear end would shake around so bad I swear the wheels were hopping off the ground

Yeah I would not mind getting rid of that return line.
I would rather like just flushing the drums out with fresh every couple of years instead of this....returning crap back into the system...

Weight variance in mine is no more than fifty lbs......so it would be set and forget for me...

If my load adjuster ever goes out....its not getting replaced..
