You will remove the bedrail caps for install. So yes, covering is a good idea. Discussed in length somewhere buried in this thread.

The topper sits on the bed rails and uses a piece of angle to bolt to the in-bed side accessory rails, and bolts in place of the front accessory rail.

@Damie Street maybe call AT and discuss bed rail plastics and Line-X, and get their take on mounting hardware for the Tundra

They don't actually remove the bedcaps anymore since 2-3 yrs ago. I didn't have mine and added the ones that Vagabond Outdoors sells, and they had some issues installing the Atlas on my truck. Mario had the guys add additional bulb seal to clear the sharkfin. This might not be an issue on the 3rd gen since the bedsides are about an inch taller.

    Awesome.

I’ve been tempted to pull mine and lime my bed rails in steel then add a thin bead of silicone.

I had no bed rail caps and bulb seal on my 2012. The hab would clip the sharkfin when I was twisting the chassis on the trail. When I dropped my headliner for sound proofing, I swapped on the ~2011 satellite “dome” to end that issue once and for all.

On my tundra we drilled through the bed rail and bolted it

it’s nice because I still get full use of the track system

Yeah I actually called and spoke to Mario. He said it’s better if I leave the plastic bed caps on so that’s what I will do.

Thank you to everyone that replied.

    *not me or my idea

Thought it was pretty cool and maybe be useful to anyone that doesn’t have the heater option that AT Overland offers.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
    Hells yeah, congrats!!!

What kind of wait is it now? I'm getting mine in April and was curious if they are still able to beat the wait of the competition. It was about 9 months back when I paid my deposit.

    Oh....and CONGRATS!!!

It’s still 9 months. But I’m in no rush as I won’t be able to enjoy the truck for a little while.

Funny, I just got an email from GoFast saying they have got their all-new manufacturing systems in place and if you order now they promise February delivery.

I'm still happy I went with AT over GoFast, but it's at least encouraging that folks who have been waiting YEARS for other campers now have a interim option.

The AT camper is definitely a smart choice. I have had almost all of them, and they all shine in different areas. I am looking forward to getting a camper for my RCSB Tundra.
I got in my buddies full size camper and I doubt I will be going back.

GFC doesn’t fit my needs. I chose AT for the thermal lining and furnace they offer. Because I plan on doing some winter camping in Alaska.
