Got my hot water setup working! Here's a link to my post on it, if interested.

It's not 100% complete yet, but just fine for use on our first camping trip of the year this coming weekend!

Opened the habitat for like the 5th time ever to let it dry out after the rain earlier this week and one of the poles was disconnected. Apparently the rivet broke off. Ugh :(

Add a screw instead. When they had to shorten some poles to get the tents to fit in the field, that’s what they used. A small metal screw. Works just fine.

Has anyone mounted lights to the bolts that are exposed under the overhang of the cab? Seems like a great spot to have side flood lights!

I haven't, but there is no reason it wouldn't work for that.

So I have spent a couple hundred bucks trying different methods for a diy flat tailgate surface. None of them worked to my satisfaction. Should have bought one of these in the first place. Kind of pricey for a piece of plastic but it's very well built.. I think I'm going to try and replace the stock tailgate hardware with some rivnuts, just need some time to look into it and get this installed 15578704830935109907112294688568.jpg

I went with a relentless aluminum replacement and I'm really happy with it. Haven't done the riv-nuts yet, but it has held fine for now.

took a sunday drive for about seven hours, camped at good site, used before at about 7400 feet amsl. used it several times for one night stops, gets early morning sun, but can get hot fast, as was the case at this time of year. the few times i've been there never seen anyone. i'd been looking at the 4WD trails above the site on G-earth, and as low priority, over several years, wanted to drive and look at the objects seen on G-earth. did that. drove about 8 miles, gained about 1100 feet, over two hours. definitely a 4WD trail, and not one i would do again for fun, i told myself then, but i might drive again. fear of electrical storms kept me from camping there, but i did see a fire-ring, very little level ground, and multiple lightening-strike trees. the objects turned out to be re-purposed antenna discs for some kind of rain water collection project, no clue really. there is an antenna on top of the high point about 8550 feet but did not go to it. i did want to see the 'lake' in deep springs from this vantage, and i did, but, though interesting, not what i imagined from studying G-earth. this the one photo on my i-pad i took on a typical section of the 4WD trail.

Paint the plastic? No thanks. I already have had a black abs sheet back there the last year and it hasn't bothered me.

Maybe the plastic doesn’t heat up like my steel tailgate plate. It gets epically hot in seconds of exposure to the sun.
